A Soulful and Powerful Monologue in the Erzgebirge Dialect

👏 Congratulations to Chisako Wakatake （#若竹千佐子), the winner of the #LiBeraturpreis this year! The awards ceremony will be held at the #Frankfurter #Buchmesse trade fair on 22 October 2022.  
 
This international recognition of her winning novel "Jeder geht für sich allein (『おらおらでひとりいぐも』）" would have not been possible without the great work of her translator, Jürgen Stalph.
 
The essence of this novel is a soulful yet very powerful monologue spoken by the protagonist in a dialect from the northern region of Japan (東北弁) which was translated into in the Erzgebirge dialect for its German edition.
 
To be honest, reading German from the Ore Mountains was quite challenging. But it is a great work. The impossible made possible. Well done, Jürgen!
 
PS.  Having said that, however, allow me to point out one mistranslation I spotted with scrutinizing eyes of a native. 手に入れる (= get hold of) is not the same as 手を入れる ( = stick a hand in)!
