A Wish List Written with a Prayerful Reflection

🎋 Today, it’s Tanabata Day! Also known as the Star Festival, this festival is based on a romantic legend that two star-crossed lovers, the Cowherd (Vega) and the Weaver Princess (Altair) are allowed to meet only once a year on the 7th of July.

As the tradition goes, people write their wishes on colourful pieces of paper and attach them to bamboo branches.

And what was my wish last year?

人々が海を越えて
自由に往き来できる日が
一日も早く戻りますように・・
(May days come back at the soonest
when people can freely travel across oceans)

I thought my wish from last year would finally come true this summer. My long planned family visit was about to happen.

But alas, for some reason my home-coming did not work exactly as I had planned … to the great disappointment of my family here and there back in Japan

The Milky Way separating East and West seems to run deeper than I thought.

But I will not give up my hope. Let’s keep hoping for better days. With a prayerful reflection, I wrote my wish for the family reunion on a paper strip in an especially bright colour.

What do you wish for you and for the world tonight?
