While strolling among the vineyards..

After writing about the homonym of bridge (橋) and chopsticks (箸), I came across a bridge failing to connect both sides of a river.

During last year’s month-long lock-down, I visited the Ahr Valley (Ahrtal) almost every weekend. I remember well how I strolled among the vineyards while feeling unsure of what the future might bring. The tranquility and colourful nature there gave me peace of mind.

With a bit of courage, I visited the area again last weekend - my first visit after the catastrophic flooding in July. The vineyards welcomed me like before. Still, the severed bridge on the banks of the Ahr is sad to behold.

To my surprise, a wine shop in the village (Winzergenossenschaft Walporzheim) was open and selling what had been left to offer. If you are not yet done with Christmas shopping, why don’t you drop by their vinotheque.

This time, I am not talking shop. I simply felt compelled to write about it.
