Today I am writing about why we focus on international students from the Middle East and Africa.

Many international students return to their home countries.　
If they return to their home countries with Japanese friends and with a good impression of Japan, they will talk about their friends and Japan in their home countries.

There are several reasons why I am focusing on the Middle East and Africa.
1) For me, the region of the Middle East and Africa is familiar.
I have been interested in Africa since I was a high school student over 40 years ago. In my previous company, I was stationed in four African countries and Dubai.
(2) For Japanese people, the Middle East and Africa are far away in many ways.
3) Among international students, students from the Middle East and Africa are a minority.
International students from any country are also important.　
In 2019 before COVID-19, there were over 300,000 international students in Japan. 90% of them are international students from China and Southeast Asia. International students from the Middle East and Africa each account for about 0.7%.
There are many international students from China and Southeast Asia, many Japanese people feel close to them, and many people think that it is important for Japanese companies.

However, I have recently begun to think that it might be better to have students from China and other Asian countries join SNS.　
This is because the number of SNS members is not increasing and there are no posts at all, and the SNS is not very active.

今日は、なぜ中東アフリカからの留学生に焦点をあてているのかについて書きます。

留学生は母国に帰る人が多いです。　
日本人の友達ができて、日本についてよい印象を持って母国に帰ると、母国でその友達や日本について話すと思います。

中東アフリカに絞っている理由はいくつかあります。
1）私にとっては中東アフリカという地域は身近だからです。
40年以上前の高校生の頃からアフリカに興味を持っていました。以前働いていた会社ではアフリカ4カ国とドバイに駐在しました。
2）日本人にとっては中東アフリカはいろいろな点で遠い存在だからです。
3）留学生の中では中東・アフリカからの留学生は少数派だからです。
どこの国からの来ている留学生も大切です。　
　コロナ前の2019年で日本には30万人を超える留学生がいました。　そのうち9割が中国や東南アジアからの留学生です。中東とアフリカから来ている留学生はそれぞれ0.7%ずつくらいです。
　中国や東南アジアからの留学生は数も多いですし、身近に感じる日本人は多いですし、日本企業にとっても重要だと考えている人が多い地域です。
　
しかし、中国やアジアからの留学生にもSNSに入ってもらった方がいいのかもしれないと最近思い始めています。　
SNSのメンバーがなかなか増えない上に、投稿がまったくなく、盛り上がっていないためです。
