There is a 21-volume series called "Gakushu Manga Sekai no Rekishi" (Educational Manga: World History) published by Shogakukan.
Approximately half of the series is currently available for free until August 31st.

Targeted at middle school and high school students, most of the kanji in these manga have furigana (pronunciation guide) accompanying them.
I believe this would be highly beneficial for foreign individuals studying Japanese as well.
