Things are evaluated differently depending on the perspective from which you look at them.

The other day, I visited an exhibition.
Not many people came to that exhibition.
I think it was because there was very little prior publicity.

I haven't been an exhibitor at any trade shows, but I have visited various exhibitions before.
Comparing it to the exhibitions I've visited in the past, one could say this particular exhibition was not very successful.
That's one perspective.

From another point of view, the exhibition could be considered a success.
This is the perspective that attaches importance to the fact that it was a first attempt.

It is hard to turn 0 into 1 in anything.
A lot of people think it would be nice to do something like this, but few actually do it.
And when it is done once, it is often followed by a second and third time.
If one person does it, it is often followed by a second and a third.
In this exhibition, there were many companies exhibiting for the first time.
These companies might exhibit for the second or third time in the future.

If we use "taking the first step" as a criterion for success or failure, then this exhibition is a success.

I do not know what the evaluation criteria were for those who organised that exhibition.
However, the criteria for evaluation should not be decided after the exhibition, but when the exhibition is planned.

When you do something, decide on the criteria for evaluation in advance and plan accordingly.
Once you have decided on the evaluation criteria, do not change them midway through the process.

ものごとはそのことを見る視点によって評価が変わりますね、

先日、ある展示会を視察しました。
その展示会にきた人はあまり多くありませんでした。
事前の広報をほとんどしていなかったからだと思います。

私は展示会の出展者になったことはありません。
しかし、いろいろな展示会の視察をしたことがあります。
これまで視察をした展示会と比較をすると、その展示会は失敗と言えます。これが一つの視点です。

もう一つの視点で見ると、その展示会は成功だったと言えるかもしれません。
それは、初めての試みだということを重要視する視点です。
どんなことでも０を１にすることは大変です。
こういうことをやればいいなと沢山の人が思っていても、実際にそれをする人はほとんどいません。
そして、一回行われると二回め三回目と続くことは多いです。
一人がすると、二人目、三人目と続くことは多いです。
その展示会では初めて展示会に出展する企業もたくさんありました。
その企業も二回目、三回目と出展するかもしれません。
「最初の一歩を踏み出す」ということを成功か失敗かの基準にするなら今回の展示会は成功です。

その展示会を開催した人たちの評価基準がどのようなものであったかを私は知りません。
しかし、その評価の基準は展示会が終わってから決めるのではなく、展示会を計画したときに決めておくべきです。

何かを行う時、評価の基準を事前に決めて計画をする。
評価の基準を決めたら、途中で変えない。
これが大切なことだと思います。
