NPO道普請人（MICHI BUSHINBITO）＆DO-NOU technology

For several years now, Kyoto University has been holding a public lecture on Africa once a month from October to February of the following year.
Information about this year (October 2021 to February 2022) is here.
I was very interested in the activities of a non-profit organization called “MICHI BUSHINBITO", which was mentioned by Professor Ryo Kimura of the Faculty of Engineering in the first lecture of this year and the one in November of 2007.
To put it simply, it is a project to build roads by local people using mainly locally available materials, rather than using heavy machinery to build beautiful paved roads.
It is difficult for local people to maintain and repair a proper road.
However, roads made with local materials and with the participation of local people are easy to maintain and repair.
It would be great if this kind of road building could become more widespread.

数年前から毎年１０月から翌年２月まで月に一回京都大学でアフリカ関連の公開講座が開催されています。
今年度（２１年１０月から２２年２月）についての情報はこちら。
今年度の第一回と１９年度の１１月の回で工学部の木村亮教授のお話で出てきた「道普請人」というNPOの活動が大変興味深いものでした。
ものすごく簡単に言うと、重機などを使ってりっぱな舗装道路を作るのではなく、現地で現地にあるものを中心にして作ったものを利用して現地の人たちで道を作ろうというプロジェクト。
りっぱな道路はメンテナンスや修理をするのが大変で現地の人だけでは難しい。
でも、現地のものを使って現地の人も参加して作った道はメンテナンスや修理もやりやすい。
こういう道路の作り方がもっと広まるといいですね。
