Japanese IT industry terms. IT業界用語

Here are some Japanese IT industry terms you might encounter at your workplace.


吐く(Haku)

吐く

吐く means to breathe out or to throw up. It is also used as output.

Example:
ログを吐く
output a log file

走る(Hashiru)

はしる

走る means to run. It is also used when you execute something.

Example:
プログラムを走らせた。
I executed the program.

火を入れる (Hi wo ireru)

火をつける

火を入れる means to set fire. It is also used when you turn the power on.

Example:
このマシンには、まだ火を入れていない。
I haven't turned the power on this machine yet.

火を噴く(Hi wo fuku)

火を噴く

Literally, it means to breathe fire. When your project is in trouble, we say "火を噴く".

Example:
このプロジェクトは火を噴いている 。
This project is in trouble.

固まる(Katamaru)

固まる

固まる means to solidify. When it is used for the computer, it means freeze.

Example:
私のノートパソコンは、固まってばかりだ。
My laptop keeps freezing.

コケる(Kokeru)

こける

コケる means to fall over. When it is used for the program, it indicates where the program code has the problem.

Example:
5行目でコケています。
The process has been terminated at line 5.

抜く(Nuku)

抜く

抜く means to pull out. When it is used for the data, it means retrieve.

Example:
顧客関連のデータを抜きます。
I retrieve the customer-related data.

怒られる(Okorareru)

おこる

怒られる means to get yelled at. It is also used when the person encountered an error when using the application.

Example:
名前を入力したら、怒られた。
When I enter my name, I got an error.

重い(Omoi)

思い

重い means heavy. It is also used when the CPU or memory usage of the computer is very high and the process is very slow.

Example:
パソコンが重い。
My PC is too slow.

死ぬ(Shinu)

死ぬ

死ぬ means to die. It also can be used when the server or process is stopped.

Example:
登録処理が死んだ。
The registration process has been stopped.

叩く(Tataku)

たたく

叩く means to beat or to knock. It is also when you execute the command or process.

Example:
コマンドを叩きました。
I executed the command.

立てる(Tateru)

立てる

立てる means to stand up. It is also used when you set up the server.

Example:
サーバーを立てました。
I set up the server.

飛ぶ (Tobu)

とぶ

飛ぶ means to fly. It is also used when the data has been removed.

Example:
プログラムの不具合で、データが飛んだ。
Due to the program bug, the data has been removed.

渡す(Watasu)

渡す

渡す means to hand in. It is also used when the data was sent.

Example:
ここで、データを渡します。
Here, it sends the data.
