What to bring on a day hike
I am going to list out things I usually bring to a day hike at our meetup (Non-winter days).
I am not a professional hike guide but hope this helps.
I put links for some items for your reference and the Amazon affiliate program.
🎒Gear
Hiking Shoes
Hiking shoes are important gear to protect you from injury or getting wet from the rain.
I use low-cut shoes but Mid cut is recommended. It protects you from twisting your ankles or sands getting in your shoes.
Rain/wind-proof wear
Mountain weather can change anytime, even if the weather forecast is good, I usually bring at least a Goatex material softshell jacket just in case.
Trekking poles
I am not used to using poles but it's supposed to be good for your joints as it allocates the leg joints stress to the arms as well? I bring sometimes just in case https://amzn.to/3tb5MDD
⛑️Risk avert goods
Phone charge battery
In case someone gets lost, Better to make sure you have enough phone charge to call for help to 110 (police number)
I carry 15,000mah or 20,000mah one which can full charge phone 2 twice.
*If you call 110 from your cellphone, the police can backtrack where you are.
Medical first aid kit
・Wilde band-aid
・Medicine: i.e. Pain killer, Stomach pain killer, leg cramps medicine, or any medicine you take
(I've had 3 people having leg cramps problems during my meetup. I think it's a more common problem than people think. I recommend carrying medicine.)
・Wide cloth to tie. For in case someone breaks their bones
・Insects poison remover https://amzn.to/3taxMaK
・Scissors
・Small belt (For tourniquet)
・Lighter
・Hokkairo
Navigation tool - MAP&GPS
In case you get lost, it's better to have a navigation tool of your own. You can download a mountain map on YAMAP for free and track the route on a smartphone or watch by GPS. https://yamap.com/
Headlamp
Mountain after sunset is very dark. it's good to have a headlamp just in case. This way you can still use your two hands while putting out light. https://amzn.to/3u0m7KQ
Whistle
A whistle will help you notify people where you are. This is helpful for other emergencies like earthquakes or any dangerous situation as well so I always carry one with me. https://amzn.to/3tVO7z3
Bear repel goods
I don't think this is necessary if it's a popular mountain but if I see a bear encounter report, I bring these items for the group.
Bear bell https://amzn.to/3tdjVjZ
Bear repel spray https\://amzn.to/3u2laBJ
🌲Others
