２０１５年１１月１７日、日本政府が沖縄県に対して辺野古移設に関する代執行の是非を求める訴訟を起こした件について、米国防総省のクック報道官は定例記者会見の質疑応答において日本の通信社の質問に答えました。以下はその全容を英日併記したものです。

Q: Japanese (land ministry ?), on November 17th, sued -- sued Okinawa governor, and is (sending a long, long land feud ?) between the central government and Okinawa prefecture over U.S. military base and construction to the (code ?).　Do you have any comment about that?

質問「日本の（国交省？）が、11月17日に、沖縄知事を訴えた─訴え、この訴訟は、米軍基地建設の（規則？）に関わる日本政府と沖縄県の間のもので、（長きに、長きに渡る土地争いを送る？）この件に関して何かコメントはありますか？」

MR. COOK: The Department of Defense continues to believe that, with the help of the government of Japan, that this project will be able to move forward. We thank the government of Japan for its efforts in this regard, and, again, we believe that ultimately -- that the relocation of that facility is in the best interests of the people of Okinawa, as well. And we're going to continue to work closely with the government of Japan moving forward to try and make that happen.

報道官「国防総省としては、この計画を前進させるには日本政府の協力が必要だと考えており、この点については日本政府の努力に感謝しています。また我々は、最終的には―沖縄の人々にとっては施設の移設が最も理に適っていると信じており、これを実現できるよう日本政府と引き続き緊密に協力していくつもりです。」
