米国大学院進学後を見据えた 実践トレーニング
今回はThirdworks Project参加者である下川嵩暉さんと杉山優衣さんにインタビューしたいと思います。インタビュアーは運営の松田が務めます。
自己紹介
下川嵩暉
熊本大学法学部3年の下川嵩暉と申します。高校生の時に外国にルーツを持つ子ども達の学習支援NPOに出会い、外国にルーツを持つ子ども達の学習に興味を持ちました、大学3年生からは政治学ゼミに入って、選挙制度をはじめ政治について学びました。また、外部の国際会議で生涯教育のあり方、年金政策様々なテーマの討論を経験し、海外で新しいことを学びたいと思いました。卒業論文のテーマは、行政とNPOの協力による外国にルーツを持つ児童生徒の日本語支援を予定しています。卒業後は、アメリカで公共政策を学びたいため、勉強しています。
杉山優衣
わたしは一回生の時から神経薬理学という教室で長期記憶に関する研究をしていたのですが、3回生くらいから医療系スタートアップに興味を持ち始め、現在は医師向けのアプリを開発しているHOKUTO という会社でインターンをしてます。医学部ですが臨床医志望ではなく、将来は起業して医療界を変えていきたいと思っています。趣味は旅行で、特に海外を旅するのが好きでこれまで20カ国以上いきました。
3月12日のイベント終了後に投稿していますが、インタビューは以前に行った内容です。
今回の下川嵩暉さんと杉山優衣さんのミーティング内容は英語でのディスカッションであると伺っており、主催者の下川からインタビューも英語で行ってほしいと依頼を受けましたので、稚拙な英語ではありますが英語でのインタビューを実施してきました。なお、インタビュー内容は見やすいように実際の会話に少し変更を加えております。（文法等のミスもあると思いますが、寛容な心で読んでいただければ幸いです。）

現在の目標
(Matsuda)
What is your goal, Takaki?
(Shimokawa)
My near goal is to enter the graduate school and I need TOEFL and huge fund. It’s difficult but I think it’s not impossible.
My long time goal is working in the United Nations, because that is my dream, I dream that because I want to eliminate the racial discrimination. I thought the United Nation is the best to do that. But now I’m not sure about that.
(Matsuda)
Does that dream come from an experience of racism, such as Asian hate?
(Shimokawa)
I think so, but it's not Asian hate.
One of my parents is not Japanese. Sometimes, when I apply for a part-time job, people see my parents' names and they say something because neither of my parents are Japanese. I don't like that. This is my experience.
目標に向けて取り組んでいること
(Matsuda)
What are you doing to achieve the goal that you mentioned?
(Shimokawa)
Now, I study TOEFL everyday. From last month I’m training my pronunciation, because my pronunciation is Japanese English. I’ve practice to be like a native speaker.
(Matsuda)
What should you need to achieve your goal except TOEFL and huge fund?
(Shimokawa)
I think the TOEFL and getting the fund are the huge problem. But I’ll go to the US in the next year, then I can find new things so I’ll study hard.

2月12日キックオフイベントに参加してみて
(Matsuda)
Did you feel anything special when you joined the Third Works kick off event, Yui?
(Sugiyama)
Actually, that was the first time to communicate with students who don't live in big cities. But I felt the students in Kumamoto have high motivation to improve themselves or big dream. That was interesting and I was so inspired by them. We can not only communicate with each other during this event, but also have a long-term relationship and cooperate with each other to achieve our own goal.
海外経験について

I’ve heard that you’ve been to UK…?
(Sugiyama)
In my junior high school and high school, I’ve been to UK and I went to Austria half a year ago. They were the different purpose, about the UK, I went there to study English, to improve my conversation skills and to make foreign friends and I went to Austria for my research project so I went to laboratory everyday. My research team was made up of people from more than 10 different countries, so it was a good experience.
これまでの経験から下川さんへ還元できること
(Matsuda)
From that experiences, what can you teach or support Takaki?
(Sugiyama)

さいごに
下川さんのグローバルに活躍したいということを考慮すると、たとえ日本人同士で、日本語でのコミュニケーションのほうがスムーズにいく場合でも、英語での会議や会話をしなければならない時が来ると思います。1か月間、英語でのディスカッションスキルの向上はもちろんのこと、学部や出身が異なるので、多方面での交流を通して、お互いが成長していただければと思います。
