David Lynch's Hotel Room (1993)

Just in case you missed this beautiful hidden gem from David Lynch, I found a couple of copies floating around on youtube. Only three episodes were produced for HBO and the series was cancelled as soon as it was aired. Lynch had a similar attempt with ABC in the previous year with “On The Air” which was a slapstick comedy I still remember fondly. Co-produced by Monty Montgomery, who also produced Lynch’s “Wild At Heart” and appeared as the Cowboy in “Mullholand Drive”, “Hotel Room” is much darker probably due to the creative freedom that HBO offered for the premium cable channel. After an unexpected popularity Lynch gained between 1990 and 1991 with “Twin Peaks”, his attempt to break into the mainstream TV industry did not seem to work out but the fact that the bizzare, surreal visions of Lynch’s Americana were repeatedly aired across every small towns of America (and around the world) for the period of a few years itself should be remembered.
