WSJ Minute Briefing - Russia Launches Barrage of Missile Strikes Across Ukraine

Here's your morning brief for Monday, October 31st I'm Keith Collins for the Wall Street journal.

Russian forces launched a barrage of strikes across Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, knocking out electricity and water supplies in some areas, according to Ukrainian officials. Moscow is intensifying its attacks and Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. Officials say Ukrainian air defenses fired incoming Russian missiles in Kyiv and another part of the country. It couldn't immediately be determined how many Russian missiles struck their targets and how many were shot down.

Brazil's leftist former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva beat conservative incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in the country's closest presidential race in history. The win marks a comeback for da Silva, who was in jail for corruption 3 years ago, as well as cementing Latin American governments leftward shift. Bolsonaro becomes the first Brazilian president to fail to get reelected since the constitutional amendment 25 years ago made re-election possible.

We're exclusively reporting that industrial company Emerson Electric is selling a majority stake and its climate tech business to Blackstone, and what would be the biggest private equity buyout in months. The deal expected to be announced today would value the business at $14 billion dollars including debt. Blackstones as it believes the climate tech business would benefit from a shift to more energy efficient heating and cooling technologies. 

産業用電気機器メーカーの Emerson Electric が、同社の気候技術事業の株式の過半数を Blackstone に売却することを、独占的に報道。本日発表される予定の買収額は、負債を含めて140億ドルとなる見込み。Blackstone は、気候変動対策事業がよりエネルギー効率の高い冷暖房技術へのシフトから恩恵を受けると考えている。 

Markets in Asia ended mixed, and European shares fell in early trading. In the US, stock futures edged lower.
