WSJ Minute Briefing - Elon Musk Completes Twitter Takeover, Fires CEO and CFO

Sources say Elon musk has completed his 44 billion dollar takeover of Twitter, and has fired several of the companies executives, including the CEO and the Chief financial officer. It wasn't immediately clear who would step into those positions. Spokespeople for Twitter didn't comment, and it tweeted a message to advertisers, Musk said he's buying the social media company to have a common digital Town square, for a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner. Twitter has told employees that they will hear from musk today, according to an internal note viewed by The Wall Street journal.

In Ukraine's capital Kyiv, residents are facing prolonged blackouts after Russia this week extended its assault on the Ukrainian power grid. More than a third of the electric system's overall power generation capacity has been damaged, according to Ukrainian officials.

We're exclusively reporting that the US justice department is investigating how poultry companies pay their chicken Farmers. It's the government's latest move to clamp down on an industry payment system that has drawn criticism from some Farmers. Pilgrims Pride said in a regulatory filing yesterday that would cooperate with the DOJ after it learned earlier this month about the department civil probe. Source to say the DOJ has similarly notified other poultry companies. The DOJ didn't immediately respond to request for comment. Pilgrims Pride declined to comment beyond its regulatory filing.

Shares of Amazon were down roughly 13% pre-market after the company issued a disappointing sales forecast. US stock futures fell ahead of the release of household spending figures, including the federal reserve's preferred measure of inflation. In Asia, markets ended the day down, while European shares fell in early trading. And Chevron, and ExxonMobil are set to report earnings today.
