WSJ Minute Briefing - Americans to Vote in Midterm Elections With Control of Congress at Stake

Here is your morning brief for Tuesday, November 8th. I'm Keith Collins for the Wall Street journal.

Americans are heading to the polls today in midterm elections with control of Congress at stake. Republicans are favored to retake the majority in the house or they need a net gain of five seats, while the Senate is a toss-up with several contests too close to call. Voters will also be deciding the outcome of governor's races in 36 States as well as referendums on a number of issues, including taxing the rich, legalizing marijuana and raising the minimum wage.

Nvidia has started offering to customers in China an alternative to a high-end chip hit by US export restrictions that threatened to cost the company hundreds of millions and lost revenue. The US chip maker says the advanced semiconductor, known as the a800, has a lower bandwidth to comply with the restrictions. It replaces the band a100 chip, which is widely used by Chinese tech Giants including Alibaba and Tencent.

Taiwan based Foxconn, the world's largest contract manufacturer for electronics, plans to inject 170 million dollars into Lordstown motors, deepening its investment in the US electric truck maker. The two companies say they intend to jointly develop their first electric vehicle, declining to provide further details. Lordstown motors, which a little over a year ago was in danger of running out of money, recently began building its first all electronic pickup truck. The company also is set to report earnings today along with Disney and Dupont. US stock futures edged higher ahead of the midterms. And Asia stocks ended the day mixed, while European shares moved between gains and losses and early trading.
