Teamwork Strategy

Hello everyone,

Thank you for reading the following blog post!
I'm Kota Suzuki from Japan. I've been practicing kendo since I was seven years old in Japan-I am currently 3rd Dan. Right now, I am studying abroad in the United States and regularly practice at the university kendo club here.

Today's topic: Teamwork. You always need a partner when you practice kendo. You usually have some other members in usual practice. It's not just for kendo, but teamwork is always important, so your action has a great impact on practices.

Today, I'll briefly introduce what you can do for good practice as well as your team members. Kendo is an indivisual sport, but I believe that practice is made by every members in your club or dojo.

First, what you can do for your teammates is you can give members an advice. When we focus on the indivisual work, we sometimes cannot be aware of something wrong of our kendo. You can see member's kendo from outside and pay attention to tiny wrong movements.

These advice is very useful for kednoka because these are completely different perspectives. Your advice might be true and might be wrong, but telling your teammates is much important because people who get advice are able to notive something through getting advice.

Second, what I want you to avoid during practice is do not make a posture that looks like you are tired because of practice. Especially in the last of practice, you would feel tired by moving a lot. However, you should not move lazily, which makes people around you tired. The atmosphere of practice easily changes by action of each members.

Positive action creates positive atmosphere, and negative action creates negative atmosphere. Your action during practice influence practice itself. Even if you are tough in the practice, try to be better and try to keep it going.

Thanks for reading this blog! Teamwork is always important in any kind of sports and activities, so it's important in kendo for sure. Don't work on indivisually and work together with your members in the club and dojo.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me! Please tell me any request if you have and I like to write about it later!
