♩Fred Neil - Everybody's Talkin'

ニルソンによるカバー「うわさの男」で知られているが、原曲はフレッドニール。シンプルな歌詞ゆえに、解釈は様々あるようで "Everybody's talkin' Song Meaning" とかでググると沢山出てくる。もしかすると、先日紹介した伝記*にも書かれているかもしれない。

「向き不向き」と言う。しかし、追求していくとそう簡単に判断できることではないことに気づく。誰もが何かしらの役を演じているのではなかろうか。うまく演じられる時もあれば、そうではない時もある。この曲は「役から降りよ」と誘っているように響いてくる。

この後アルバムを一枚リリースし「シンガー」の役を降りイルカと生きる道を選んだフレッド。その後も歌い続けていたらしいが「シンガー」として人前で演奏することは殆どなかったようだ。謎多きゆえの「うわさの男」。フレッドにぴったりの呼称ではなかろうか。
