Tradition (in transition)

Looking to the sky,
a child asked,
"Is the sky looking at me?"

"What do you think?"
All smiles, the child answered,
"It is!"

The other day, the child mumbled,
"The sky is not looking at me.
So I was taught at school"

"What do you think?"
"It still is!" said the child
"Then, I believe it is"

Looking to the sky,
the grown man remembers,
having the same conversation

「空は僕を見ているかな」
　と空を見上げながら
　子供が尋ねた

「君はどう思う？」と聞くと
　満面に笑みを浮かべ
「もちろん！」と

　別の日に「空は僕のことなんか
　見てないって。学校でそう習ったよ」
　と、ぼそっと不満げに言うので

「君はどう思う？」と聞くと
「それでも空は僕を見ているさ」
「そう思うならそうに違いないさ」

　空を見ながら、
　大人になった子供は
　そんな会話を思い出していた
