【挑戦】Webtoon×NFTで作品を創ります(※English Below)
はじめまして。株式会社ソラジマ共同代表の萩原です。
ソラジマはWebtoon（カラーの縦スクロール漫画）を制作しているマンガスタジオです。
連載中のWebtoon作品も順調に成長中です🎉

「今世紀を代表するコンテンツを創るー。」をミッションに、小学館や集英社などからも出資を受け、22年は26作品、23年は50作品のWebtoonを作る予定で、すでにWebtoonではヒット作品が生まれています！
最近はAP通信でもソラジマが取り上げられたりと世界でもこの領域が注目されているのを感じます。
・本題：Webtoon×NFTで作品を創ります
タイトルの通り、WebtoonとNFTを掛け合わせたプロジェクトを立ち上げます！
・WHY：なぜプロジェクトを立ち上げるのか？
結論、盛り上がっているNFTプロジェクトをみて、僕らも面白い企画を作ってみたいと思ったからです！

正直、PFPのNFTには興味が湧かなかったんですが、自分的には、オリジナルプロジェクトやるタイミングかなと思う。
また、KLKTNの岩瀬さんも一連の投稿の中で次にように言及しています。

ファンにとっては嬉しい企画だし商業的には成功したプロジェクトなのだろうが、「Web3、NFTのポテンシャルを最大限活かす」という観点からはどこか物足りない。
倉庫に眠っている過去作品を切り売りしてマネタイズするだけではなく、もっと未来に広がりがある感じのことができないか？
既に大成功されたアーティストをさらに豊かにすることよりも、未来のスターを育み、応援するような企画こそが「Web3的」ではないか？
”今世紀を代表するコンテンツを創るー。”をミッションに掲げるソラジマとしてWebtoonとNFTという大きなうねりの中で未来のスターになる可能性が0.1%でもあるならば挑戦すべきだと思いました。
・WHAT：何をやるのか？
ソラジマが作ったオリジナルキャラクターをNFTとして販売します。
NFTの保有者にはキャラクターの商用利用権を付与します。
グッズなどの商用利用はもちろん、
キャラクターを活用したGenerative Art NFTの創作＆販売なども可能です！（むしろやってほしい！）
※保有者の商用利用を公式として認定し、ファンアート等の2次利用も解放しようと思います
また、今回売り出すキャラクターのうち、少なくとも1人を主人公にしたWebtoonを2022年中に公開予定です。
・HOW：どうやるのか！！
第一弾は"侍/サムライ"をテーマにキャラクターを作りました。
今回は5キャラを販売予定です！
SAMURAI TOONシリーズではMAX20体のキャラの販売を想定しています（2022/3/24追記）
ゆくゆくはオリジナリティあふれる様々なキャラクターを展開していき
”ジャパニーズ・アベンジャーズ”を目指しますっ！！！！
具体的な展開はまだまだ未定ですが、Webtoonでヒットしたコンテンツがアニメ化、ゲーム化、メタバース上での活用という未来を信じています。
事実、WebtoonのグローバルシェアNo.1のNaverウェブトゥーンはWebtoonIPのメタバース上での活用を目指しています。
NAVERウェブトゥーンが、メタバース・プラットフォーム「ZEPETO」内にウェブトゥーンテーマパーク「WEBTOON WORLD」を開園する予定です。ユニバーサルスタジオやディズニーランドのような空間を仮想世界に創り、ウェブトゥーンIPの世界やキャラクター等を活用したテーマパーク体験ができるようになる予定です。世界中に3億人の加入者を持つZEPETOと、グローバルで月間ユーザー8,200万人を超えるNAVERウェブトゥーンが相乗効果を発揮できる新しいエンターテイメントを創造することになります。(webtooninsightより引用)

Our mission- "Creating entertainment that will represent this century.”
To achieve this mission, we’ve received investment from major publishers such as Shogakukan and Shueisha, and plan to create 26 Webtoons in 2022 and 50 in 2023, with hit Webtoons already in production!
SORAJIMA has been featured by the Associated Press recently and we feel that webtoons are attracting attention around the world as well.

As today’s blog title suggests, we are launching a project that crosses webtoon and NFT!
・Why are we launching the project?
Bottom line- we saw NFT projects gaining momentum. No reason to try and start this new business ourselves!

“The future of cartoon NFT
40-year-old Gorillaman is back as a new series in Young Magazine as "Gorillaman 40". This should bring excitement to those born around 1975, including myself. Since I have an “old” face (note from author: meaning he looks old even in his younger days), nothing feels different even after I’ve turned 40.
And from this week, the series has been the target of our NFT project. Therefore, I would like to express my thought on the future of manga NFT.”
“Although this is a project that fans will be happy to see, and I suppose it is a commercially successful project, it is somewhat lacking in terms of “making the most of the potential of Web3 and NFT.”
Can't we do something that feels more expansive to the future, rather than just monetizing by selling off past works that are sitting in a warehouse?
Rather than further enriching already highly successful artists, isn't it more "Web3-like" to plan projects that create and support future stars?”
As a company with the mission of "Creating content that will represent this century," I thought if there is even a 0.1% chance of becoming a “future star” in the great wave of webtoon and NFT, we should take on the challenge.
・What are we going to do?
Original characters created by SORAJIMA will be sold as NFT!
NFT holders will be granted the right to use the characters for commercial purposes. You can create merchandise for commercial purposes or even use the characters to create & sell Generative Art NFT! (I’m hoping you will!)
We plan on officially recognizing the use of the characters and allow secondary use such as fan art, etc.
We also plan to release a webtoon series by the end of 2022, where at least one of the characters we are going to sell is going to become the main character.
・How we're going to do it!
As our first NFT project, we’ve created “samurai” characters.
(Added 3/24/2022) Currently, we are planning to sell 5 characters. We expect to sell a maximum of 20 characters from the SAMURAI TOON series.
We’re planning on creating various characters full of originality one by one, and eventually, we aim to create the “Japanese Avengers”!!!!
Although how the story will unfold is still undecided, we believe in a future where hit webtoons will be animated, turned into games, and utilized in the metaverse.
In fact, Naver Webtoon, which has the largest global market share of webtoons, is aiming to utilize Webtoon IP in the metaverse.
“Naver Webtoon plans to open a webtoon theme park, WEBTOON WORLD, within the metaverse platform ZEPETO. A space similar to Universal Studios or Disneyland will be created in the virtual world, where visitors will be able to experience being in a theme park through the use of webtoon IP characters. ZEPETO, with 300 million subscribers worldwide, and Naver Webtoon, with over 82 million monthly users globally, will create a new synergistic entertainment experience.” (Adapted from webtooninsight)

What is SORAJIMA Studio?
A studio that produces original webtoons (vertically-scrolling manga) such as "Time-slipped Princess’s Vengeance Plan" operated by SORAJIMA Inc. The studio produces everything in-house, from original story to original drawings, and is working toward the "Alphabet Project" which aims to release 26 works in 2022.
