NHKのラジオ基礎英語のテキストが６６０円になっていた

スティーブン・キングの文庫本が約２０００円もするという記事を書いた。値上がりしているのはそれだけではない。

本屋に、NHKの語学番組のテキストの４月号が積まれていた。何気なしに定価をみたら、ラジオ基礎英語のテキストが６６０円もする。

私が中学１年生だったころ、基礎英語のテキストはたぶん２００円ぐらいだったので３倍以上の値上がりだ（もっとも、例えば少年サンデーはその頃１００円程度だったと思うが、今は３６０円なので、驚くことではないのかもしれない）。
３月号は５５０円で、一気に１１０円も値上がりしている。

もし１年間テキストを購入し続けたら、総額で７９２０円となり、去年より１３２０円も高い。

ラジオ英会話のテキストも６６０円で、値段に関して番組ごとの主な利用者年齢は考慮されていないようだ。

これの電子書籍なら紙より１００円程度安いが、当然機器が必要だ。

私が中学生だったころ、学校以外の安価な英語教材としては、NHKラジオが唯一だった。今の小学生や中学生たちは、英語をどのように学んでいるのだろう？

上のグラフは小学校3年生～6年生の保護者 287名と、中学校1年生～3年生の保護者 213名の計500名が、インターネットのアンケートで回答した結果だ。

小・中学生全体で、「紙の教科書」が62.2%ともっとも多く、続いて、「紙の問題集・参考書」（41.2%）、「学習用アプリ」（28.0%）、「学習者用デジタル教科書」（14.0%）の順に多かった。「紙の教科書」と「学習者用デジタル教科書」を合わせると全体の76.2%が、家庭学習の際に、紙またはデジタルの「教科書」を使っていることがわかった。
小・中学生別に見てもこの傾向は変わらず、小学生では69.3%が、中学生では85.4%が、紙またはデジタルの「教科書」を使っていると回答した。

ラジオの英語番組を聞いているという回答は2.8%なので、５００人中の１４人だ。たぶん、学習用アプリや動画が、NHKのシェアをかなり奪ったのではないだろうか。

このラジオでは短波放送も聞けるので、『百万人の英語』という番組を聞こうとしたが、雑音交じりでかなり聞きづらかった。

NHK's radio basic English textbook costs 660 yen.

I wrote an article about Stephen King's paperback books costing about 2,000 yen. That's not the only thing going up in price.

At the bookstore, the April issue of NHK's language program text was piled up. I casually looked at the list price and found that the radio basic English text book cost 660 yen.

When I was in the first year of junior high school, the price of a basic English textbook was probably around 200 yen, so the price has more than tripled (although, for example, Shonen Sunday was around 100 yen then, but is now 360 yen, so perhaps I shouldn't be surprised). The March issue is 550 yen, a 110 yen increase in one fell swoop.

If you continue to purchase textbooks for one year, the total cost will be 7,920 yen, which is 1,320 yen more expensive than last year.

Radio English conversation textbooks also cost 660 yen, and the price does not seem to take into account the age of the main users of each program.

This e-book is about 100 yen cheaper than the paper version, but of course requires equipment.

When I was a junior high school student, NHK Radio was the only inexpensive English teaching material outside of school. How do elementary and junior high school students today learn English?

A total of 500 people, 287 parents of 3rd to 6th grade elementary school students and 213 parents of 1st to 3rd grade junior high school students, answered an online questionnaire. The results are as follows.

Among all elementary and junior high school students, "paper textbooks" were the most common choice at 62.2%, followed by "paper question books/reference books" (41.2%), "learning apps" (28.0%), and "digital for learners". "Textbooks" (14.0%) were the most common. Combining "paper textbooks" and "digital textbooks for learners," it was found that 76.2% of the total used paper or digital "textbooks" during home learning. This trend remains the same when looking at elementary and junior high school students: 69.3% of elementary school students and 85.4% of junior high school students answered that they use paper or digital "textbooks."

2.8% of respondents said they listen to English programs on the radio, or 14 out of 500 people. Perhaps educational apps and videos have taken away a large share of NHK's market share.

The title photo shows a Sony TFM-110 radio, which I used to listen to radio programs when I was in junior high school.

This radio also had access to shortwave broadcasting, so I tried to listen to a program called "English Age", but it was difficult to hear because of the noise.
