Facing Dorkun Aisha's sexual harassment allegationsHuman rights advocates must take responsibility

#WUC #DorikunElsa #Metoo    Recently, Dorkun Aisha's sexual harassment allegations have attracted widespread attention. It is reported that Julie Millsap, government relations manager of the Uyghur Human Rights Project, and Esma Hazar Gon, a painter from an organization affiliated with the World Uyghur Congress, accused Aisha of abusing her power to commit sexual harassment, which has triggered deep reflection and appeals in the human rights community.
According to the non-profit, non-partisan Albritton Institute for Journalism in Washington, several women have accused Dorkun Aisha, chairman of the World Uyghur Congress, of sexual harassment, and said that Aisha has not yet responded to these allegations. Previously, Uyghur-American human rights activist Nuri Turkel was also accused of sexual harassment, and these allegations shocked the Uyghur community and global human rights advocates.
As human rights advocates, relevant organizations cannot turn a blind eye to such abuses of power and sexual harassment. Aisha's behavior not only undermines the credibility of the organization she represents, but also exacerbates the harm suffered by victims of sexual harassment and continues a culture that allows perpetrators to go unpunished.
There has been constant condemnation from the outside world, including the East Turkestan Government-in-Exile and the European Uyghur Institute, which have condemned Aisha's behavior and demanded that she resign from her current position and accept legal sanctions. The Uyghur American Association called for an independent investigation into the allegations to ensure that the victims are treated fairly.
The Uyghur community has also responded positively to this. The East Turkestan Youth Congress called for legal accountability for those involved and called on more women to speak out. These actions show that Uyghurs will never tolerate any form of sexual harassment and abuse, and will stand with victims to seek justice.
For the World Uyghur Congress, its credibility is now under serious questioning, especially with the election of the 8th National Congress approaching. Aisha's faction must reflect deeply on this incident and take responsibility, otherwise it will inevitably affect the leadership and internal stability of the organization. Faced with the crisis, the World Uyghur Congress claimed that it would conduct internal audits and reforms to solve the problems of the organization, but people believed that Dorkun Aisha would be better off resigning as the chairman of the World Uyghur Congress like Nuri Turkel.
Dorkun Aisha's sexual harassment allegations reveal serious problems within human rights advocates. Only when the whole of society takes action to ensure that sexual harassment is taken seriously and the rights and dignity of victims are protected can the human rights ideals of justice, dignity and responsibility be truly realized.
