Hi my name’s Blair.
I thought I'd tell you a little story about as I was backpacking through Europe.
やあ、僕の名前はブレア。ヨーロッパをバックパック旅行していたときのちょっとしたストーリーを話そうかなと思ってるんだけど。
✎ I thought I would ＝ thinkの過去形thoughtを使い、文字通り読めば「～と思っていました（今そうしたいと思っているとは限りません）」という意味になるが、そのような言い回しをすることで控えめなニュアンスが出る。

(This happened..) The story occurred about ten years ago.
I just finished about a year's work in the United Kingdom.
このストーリーは約10年前の出来事です。僕は約１年間におよぶイギリスでの仕事をちょうど終えたばかりだった。
✎ occur ＝ 起こる、生じる

And I decided to take four months off to travel around Europe before coming back to New Zealand to continue the rest of my work.
それで、ニュージーランドに戻って残りの任務を続行する前に、４ヶ月間の休暇を取ってヨーロッパを旅行することに決めた。

So, it was about two months into my travels.
I'd travelled through many places, living off the bags on my back, not really taking good care of myself or anything like that.
それは旅行を始めて約２ヶ月経った頃だった。たくさんの国を旅行してきてきたけど、バックパック一つだけの旅で、身なりを整えることもしなかった。

And it got to a point where I thought (it was, it was needed that..) the beard needed a bit of a trim and I needed a bit of a haircut.
あるとき、いいかげんヒゲを整えて髪も少し切らなければいけないと思うようになった。

So I was in Turkey at the time, so I (went to..) I walked down the main street and I basically looked for a place that looked like a barber or a hairdresser.
僕はそのときトルコにいて、メインストリートを歩いて床屋か美容院と思われるような場所を探した。

And I found this place, which (looked..) looked quite legit.
そして一軒の店を見つけた。とてもきちんとしている感じだった。

But it was very difficult.
He didn't speak English, I did not speak Turkish.
So it was (mostly..) mostly hand signals.
でも、とても大変だった。店の人は英語を話せないし、僕はトルコ語を話せない。なので、ほとんど身振り手振りで会話した。
✎ hand signal ＝ 手ぶり、手信号

(We..) We went into his chair. He got me all, sort of, sorted.
僕は椅子に座らされて、店の人は全ての道具を揃えた。

We got through the haircut.
We did the beard, it looked great.
We did the sides and the head, it also looked great.
散髪は終わった。
ヒゲも整えてもらい、いい感じになった。
サイドもトップも整えて、いい感じになった。
✎ get through ~ ＝ 〜を(し)終える、通過する、〜に合格する

But (then..) he then, like, leant me well back and (put..) put a warm towel over my face.
でもそれから彼は僕の椅子を大きく後ろに倒して、顔の上に温かいタオルを置いたんだ。
✎ leant ＝ leanの過去形、発音注意【lént】
✎ lean ~ back ＝ 〜を後ろに傾ける、立てかける（wellは強調の役割）

And (I didn't..) I didn't quite understand what was going on but because I didn't speak Turkish and he didn't speak English.
(I, I..) I just went with it.
僕は何が始まるのか分からなかった。だって僕はトルコ語話せないし、彼は英語を話せない。
成り行きにまかせることにした。

I just accepted (what he..) what he was doing.
彼のしていることをただ受け入れることにした。

So anyway, I'm laying back not knowing what's going on, hot towel on my face.
とにかく、僕は何か起こるか分からないまま仰向けになっていた。顔の上に熱いタオルを載せたまま。

And all of a sudden, the hot towel got ripped off my face, and two Q-tips filled with hot wax got stuck up my nose.
そして突然、熱いタオルは僕の顔からのけられ、熱いワックスがついた綿棒が２本鼻の穴の奥に突っ込まれた。

Just a couple of minutes later, he comes back to me and then he just says, like, “one, two, three!”.
２〜３分後、彼は戻ってきて「１、２、３」と数えた。

And then grabs both Q-tips and rips them out of my nose, and with them come all of the hairs inside my nose.
そして、両方の綿棒をつかみ、一気に僕の鼻から引っ張り出した。鼻の中のすべての毛がくっついて出てきた。

✎ with them come all of the hairs inside my nose ＝ 「all of the hairs inside my nose come with them」の「with them」を前に出す（倒置）することで驚き・非日常感を強調している。

And he shows me the Q-tips and it looks like little hedgehogs like two little hedgehogs at the end of the Q-tips.
それから彼はその綿棒を見せてくれた。まるで綿棒の先に小さなハリネズミが二匹くっついているみたいだった。

And it was like THE most painful, like, crazy experience I’ve ever been through.
いままでの人生で間違いなく最も痛くておかしな体験だった。

But then afterwards, I could breathe so clearly.
(It was like..) It was amazing!
でもその後は、すごく呼吸が楽になった。
とても快適だったよ。

It was painful and exhilarating and weird, all in the same situation.
痛くて、爽快で、変な感じがすべて混ざったような感覚だった。

So (that was..) that was my experience with a Turkish barber.
