新静岡セノバの近くに小さい石碑があります。このような言われがあるのです。
The stone monument of Kumataka Bridge
くまたか橋の石碑
There is a small stone monument near Shin-Shizuoka Cenova, which is a complex shopping mall with a train and bus terminal.
電車とバスのターミナルを有する複合商業施設である新静岡セノバの近くに、小さな石碑があります。
‘Kumataka’ literally means ‘mountain hawk-eagle’ in Japanese.
「くまたか」とは文字通り日本語で「クマタカ」を意味します。
According to the explanation, Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu improved the water system in Sumpu.
石碑の説明によると、徳川家康公は駿府で用水を整備しました。
The water was drawn from the Abe River and it used to flow downtown as a stream.
その水は安倍川から引かれ、小川として街の中を流れていました。

In the middle of the Edo period, this stream flew around this location and a small bridge was built to cross it.
江戸時代中期、この小川はこの辺りを流れており、小さな橋が架けられていました。
This small bridge was 'Kumataka Bridge'.
この小さな橋が「くまたか橋」です。
It was about 2.4m long and 4.5m wide.
長さ2.4メートル、幅4.5メートルほどでした。
The name ‘Kumataka Bridge’ was written on an old map issued in the Edo period.
「くまたか橋」という名前は江戸時代の古地図に記載されていました。
Nowadays, this stream has turned into an underdrain, so the bridge was removed.
今ではこの流れは暗渠となり、橋はもうありません。
However, the small stone pillar was left as a reminder of the old bridge.
しかし、小さな石柱が古い橋の名残として残されています。
According to a historical document, Lord Ieyasu had mountain hawk-eagles kept around this location.
歴史書によると、家康公はクマタカをこの地で飼育させていました。
It is thought that his favorite hawk eagles were taken care of by his servants, falconers.
お気に入りのクマタカが家来の鷹匠によって世話をされていたことでしょう。
In fact, this location is just near the district called ‘Takajo’, where the falconers used to reside.
たしかに、かつて鷹匠たちが住んでいた「鷹匠」という地区のすぐ近くにこの場所はあります。
