駿府城公園のイベントはこの週末も行われています。実は駿府城公園の辺りは静岡の歴史を考える上で徳川家康公のずっと前から重要な場所です。ミルフィーユのように静岡の歴史が重なっているとお考え下さい。「ブラタモリ」のようにこの辺りを見てみましょう。
The Vicinity of Sumpu Castle Before the Imagawa Ruling Period
今川家支配以前の駿府城周辺
The vicinity of Sumpu Castle had been very important even before the Imagawa ruling period.
駿府城辺りは今川家支配以前より大変重要な場所でした。
Sumpu Castle was located at the most elevated part of Shizuoka Plain.
駿府城は静岡平野の中で最も標高が高い場所にあります。
Abe River, which flew through Shizuoka Plain, often flooded, but the area around Sumpu Castle was safe from the flooding.
静岡平野を横切って流れる安倍川は度々洪水を引き起こしましたが、駿府城の周辺は洪水の被害を受けていませんでした。
So, the land around Sumpu Castle was the safest place to live in Shizuoka Plain.
ですから、駿府城周辺の土地は静岡平野の中で居住するのに最も安全な場所でした。
In addition, the high altitude allowed the residents to monitor the whole Shizuoka Plain and the travelers passing up and down the Tokaido route.
さらに、その標高の高さのおかげで、そこに住んでいる人たちが静岡平野を見渡し、東海道を行きかう旅人たちを見ておくことができました。

Rulers took advantage of this height to control the traffic.
支配者たちは交通を掌握するのにこの高さを利用しました。
The advantage of Sumpu Castle's elevated location went back even before the ancient period.
駿府城の小高い位置の利用はそれ以前の昔にさかのぼります。
At the end of the Warring States period, it is believed that Tokugawa Ieyasu first built the Sumpu Castle under the supervision of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
戦国時代の末期、徳川家康は豊臣秀吉の監督下で最初の駿府城築城を行ったと考えられます。
After his retirement from the shogunate, Lord Ieyasu planned to build his new castle on the farther west side of the current Sumpu Castle along the Abe River to benefit from its water transportation.
将軍引退後、家康公は新しい城をその時あった駿府城の西側、安倍川沿いに建てて、水運を大いに活用しようと計画しました。
However, Tokugawa Ieyasu gave up the plan because the current location was more advantageous than any other location.
しかし、徳川家康はこの計画をあきらめました。その時の駿府城の場所が他のどの場所より優れていたからです。
The Imagawa clan‘s palace was also in this location during the Muromachi period.
今川館も室町時代、この場所にありました。
Prior to the Muromachi Period, the regional administrative center was already located there.
室町時代以前、地方を治める中心的役場もすでにその場所にありました。
This place had been the best location for governing Sumpu.
この場所は駿府を治めるのに最適な場所でした。
The location of the Aoi Elementary School, north of Sumpu Castle Park, also played an important role in the ancient period.
駿府城公園の北側にある葵小学校の場所も、古代、重要な役割を果たしました。
Before the school building was constructed, an excavation was done in 2004.
小学校の建物を建設する前、2004年発掘調査が行われました。
内堀と外堀の間にあります。
Remains of clay potteries dating back before the second century B.C. were unearthed there.
紀元前2世紀までさかのぼる土器の破片がそこで出土しました。
They are much older than the Toro ruins, which are famous as the ruins from the Yayoi period.
それは弥生時代の遺跡として有名な登呂遺跡よりずっと古いものでした。
Chronologically, the vicinity of Sumpu Castle Park has been the central location of the administration of Sumpu (Shizuoka) even until now.
年代を追って考えると、駿府城公園周辺はずっと昔から現在においても駿府（静岡）の行政の中心地であり続けているのです。
