では、第２回目です。「宗教の話はどこかに置いておきましょう」

Islam is my religion but I believe my religion is my personal business. It governs my personal life, my personal morals.

私はイスラム教徒だが、それは私の個人的な事柄だ。私の生活様式や善悪判断の基準になっている。

And my religious philosophy is personal between me and the God in whom I believe, just as the religious philosophy of these others is between them and the God in whom they believe.

私の宗教的な信条は私と神の間の問題であり、個人的なことだ。先ほど例に挙げた皆さんの宗教的な考え方が、彼らと彼らの信じる神との間の問題であるのと同じだ。

And this is best this way. Were we to come out here discussing religion, we'd have too many differences from the outstart and we could never get together.

そのように考えるのがベストなんだ。このような場に出てきてまず宗教の話から、なんてやっていたら、ハナから相違点ばかりでいつまで経っても歩調を合わせる事などできない。

So today, though Islam is my religious philosophy, my political, economic and social philosophy is black nationalism.

そういうことで今日は、私の宗教的な考え方はイスラム教、私の政治的、経済的、社会的な考え方は黒人民族主義、ということでお願いしたい。

You and I – As I say, if we bring up religion, we'll have differences, we'll have arguments, and we'll never be able to get together.

皆さんと私は・・・先ほど言ったように宗教の話を始めると相違点ばかり、討論ばかりとなってしまって、いつまで経っても意識を合わせることができない。

But if we keep our religion at home, keep our religion in the closet, keep our religion between ourselves and our God, but when we come out here we have a fight that's common to all of us against a(n) enemy who is common to all of us.

でも、私たちが宗教の話を家庭の中だけで留めて置きさえすれば、タンスの中にでもしまって置きさえすれば、宗教の事は自分自身と神様の間の問題だけにして置きさえすれば、私たちはこのような場に出てきて、共通の問題について、共通の敵と戦うことが出来る。
