Bust Waste Hip was the first album after the Blue Hearts moved to a new label

The Blue Hearts was a Japanese punk rock band active from 1985 to 1995. The Blue Hearts have been compared to such bands as the Sex Pistols, The Clash and the Ramones. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked them at number 19 on their list of 100 most important Japanese pop acts.In September 2007, Rolling Stone Japan rated their self-titled debut album number 3 on its list of the “100 Greatest Japanese Rock Albums of All Time”.

According to Hiroto Komoto, the name “Blue Hearts” was chosen because “it doesn’t have any meaning, it’s easy for anyone to say, even elementary school kids can understand it, and it doesn’t show the band’s musicality.
The lyrics were mainly written by Hiroto Komoto on vocals and Masatoshi Majima on lead guitar.
The Blue Hearts’ hit songs include “Linda Linda,” “TRAIN-TRAIN,” “Passionate Rose,” and “Dream. Despite the fact that most of the Blue Hearts’ songs have simple chord progressions, mainly three or four chords, they have created many songs that are full of originality.
In the first trilogy from “THE BLUE HEARTS” to “TRAIN-TRAIN”, the band built their own unique world of Japanese rock with a strong message rooted in blues, but in the later works after moving to East West, they adopted various styles that led to the later THE HIGH-LOWS, and many of the songs ignored the message.

The album was a big success and was the first album by the band to reach #1 on the Oricon charts.
Compared to the previous album, this album had more hard rock, blues, soul music, and R&B colors, and more songs with abstract lyrics. Mashima said in an interview at the time, “It was a time when we were trying to break through the past image of the Blue Hearts.
