一昔前のこどもはデジタル機器がなかったため、友人たちと外で遊ぶのが普通だった。運動が苦手でも、人数が足りなければ負担の少ないポジションで借り出された。
About several decades ago, children didn’t have any digital devices, so that they would often play outside with their friends after school.
Even children without any talent to play sports were forced to participate in the position where they didn’t have to perform any technical abilities, which was so common for them.

その状況は家庭用のゲーム機が40年ちょっと前に開発されて変化した。家で遊ぶゲームと言えばボードゲームか主流だったがこどもはファミコンに夢中になった。
Such a situation changed about 40 years ago, Nintendo developed a home video game machine, which a large number of children became absorbed in.
Before that, they would often had a good time with a board game at home in a rainy day.

今はスマホだ。遊び方はたくさんある。動画配信を観たり、写真を撮ったり、音楽を聴いたり、漫画を読んだり、ソーシャルメディアを楽しんだりする。
In modern days, they devote themselves to operating a smartphone, which has several kinds of functions they are absorbed in : watching movies, exchanging emails, taking pictures, playing games, listening to music, reading comics, enjoying social media and so on.

だが彼らにはするべきことが他にもっとある。学校が宿題を課すからだ。それをするかしないかは成績を左右する。成績は進学できるかどうかを左右する。
But they have something else to do because schools force children to do their assignments at home.
Whether they can obtain reasonable grades might be dependent on homework they complete by the deadlines, and whether they can enter the school they want might depend on their grades.

遊びたい欲望は自分の意思でコントロールできない。だから親のモニタリングは重要だ。しかし強制するよりも、双方が納得できる方法を模索するべきだ。
They naturally have a desire to enjoy themselves with a smartphone, which cannot be controlled by their own weak will, which is the reason that their parents should monitor their behaviors with digital devices.
But parents shouldn’t compel children not to use such an entertaining machine, instead both sides should have a discussion how long they can use it in a day.

スマホはこどもたちの貴重な時間を奪っている。しかも有意義というよりも害悪の要素が大きい。彼らがスマホに依存しすぎないためには親が最後の砦だ。
A smartphone deprives children of their precious and meaningful time, which doesn’t make any positive contributions to them, in other words, such a digital device has only negative influences on their life.
In conclusion, their parents are the last defense line, which would prevent their children from wasting their indispensable adolescences.

This reason makes the question titled above favorable.
