Crafted Spirits of Miyakojima

As even another country's people know, Sake is very popular in Japan. It is made in many regions and circulated all over Japan.
In Okinawa, they are producing Awamori instead of Sake. Sake is quite a delicate liquor which can be oxidized easily like wine. Okinawa's weather is hot and humid so it is difficult to produce and store Sake properly. And Awamori is a kind of spirit that is easy to store, therefore it is very suitable for this region.
Recently, Taragawa, one of Awamori manufacturers in Miyakojima, started to produce other liquors.
First, they released Makugan, a crafted rum made from sugar cane grown in this island. In Japan, rum was not so popular but it is getting known year by year. In another Okinawan island, a small manufacturer began to produce it and it attracted attention because of its fine flavor several years ago. As most people know, a huge amount of sugar cane is cultivated in Okinawa but it is not used properly, unfortunately. I approve perfectly for this kind of trial which may bring wealth to farmers and local manufacturers.
Makugan became one of my favorite liquors after all.

And several months ago, I found Taragawa was producing another crafted liquor when I was in a liquor store to buy some Awamori for our customers.
It was a gin, simply named Miyako Gin. It was packaged very fashionable. I bought one without hesitation.
Gin is made from juniper berries and I don't think they can be collected in this island. But I'm sure that the manufacturer had researched enthusiastically. It tasted very spicy and strong, and unique. As a matter of fact, its ingredients are quite complicated and contain many kinds of spices according to its label.
It was really stiff but with tonic water, it became a brilliant Gin Tonic.

I'm going to renew our drink menu for our customers. We continue to serve Orion Beer, Awamori and its cocktail, and mango smoothie, of couse. I'm looking forward to see that our customers would have another pleasure.
