私の見た範囲のヒューストンは治安が良いです。沖縄の北谷やライカムに雰囲気が似ている。
警察官は見かけないですし、カフェでは鞄を置いたままトイレにも行けます。道が綺麗で、車社会ですね。何百メートルおきにショッピングモールがあります。
宿泊先で気をつけたいのが、朝食付きか周辺にご飯を食べる場所があるか・・・。この前泊まったホステルでは、スーパーまで歩いて15分とかバス移動が必要だったり。なかなかの暑さなので出来るだけ近場だとありがたい。
近くのおしゃれなカフェのクレープとキャラメルラテが美味しかった・・・。クレープが一枚の生地が厚くて中にチキンやトマトなどの野菜が入ってて、タコスソースのようなのを付けても食べれるやつ。とてもお腹すいてたので、すぐさま平らげた。
メキシコ人の友達は優しくお話し上手で、お別れする時はハグ。同じくメキシコ人のホテルのスタッフさんは、チェックイン前に待っている私に無料で飲めるドリンクスタンドをすすめてくれて。また、泥の中を歩いた靴のままで、掃除したばかりの床を汚してしまった私にチップを受け取らずに、笑顔で「大丈夫よ」ともう一度掃除してくれた、、、。メキシコ人のスタッフさん達同士は楽しくお昼ご飯を食べてる姿が素敵です。
メキシコ行ってみたいなぁ・・・。ご飯美味しそう。
スーパーのウォルマートの規模は圧巻で。私の足だと一周するのに10分ぐらいかかりそうな大きさ。小学生の子どもが3〜4人ぐらい入りそうなカートに、1週間分の食料を入れ込んでいる。。この迫力と規模が基本なアメリカだから、あらゆるコンテンツに魅力を与えるのだろうな。
あと、同じくスーパーのアルディではレジのおばちゃん1人の小さめの規模だったが、フレンドリーな感じ。ポテチ＋バーガーをつまみながらのレジ打ちはさすが笑

チップ社会のアメリカ。ラスベガスのカジノディーラーはチップがなければ最低賃金とも聞く。イギリスではなかったが、アメリカに来たら小さなお店であってもチップを選ぶ画面が出る。

今日は約3週間前、NYでのキルユー事件で配送ができなかったもののリベンジ。この前はUSPS（アメリカの一般的な郵便局）でしたが、今回は少し値段は張るけれど丁寧なFEDEXへ。事前にメモで郵送物を英語名で種類ごとにいくつなのか書いていきました。
本当に丁寧にスタッフさんが対応していただいて、何とか送れました。20分ほど後ろのお客さんを待たせてしまいましたが、、、。
郵便局まで往復1時間、35度の炎天下でしたが、フロリダよりは涼しく影は風が吹き抜ける。向かいから歩いてきた黒人の兄ちゃんが「あと少しで着くぞ、イェー」と達成感を表してきたり。ヒッチハイクしてる人がいたり。見たことのない可愛いお花や靴の3分の1もある松ぼっくり、聞いたことのない蝉の鳴き声。車社会なので、誰かが踏みならして作られた道なき道を歩きながら、これが旅なんだなぁと思ったりしました。

p.s. wifi速度はホテルは遅め。普通の検索がロードされるまでに時間がかかる所も。そんな時は動画やインスタはもちろん見れない。一方ホステルは日本と同じぐらい速くてサクサク。
あとは、コロナであることは忘れるぐらいマスクを使わない生活ですね。

As far as I can see, Houston is safe. The atmosphere is similar to Chatan and Rycom in Okinawa. You won't see police officers, and you can go to the bathroom with your bag in the cafe. The roads are clean and it's a car society. There is a shopping mall every few hundred meters. What I want to be careful about when choosing an accommodation is whether it includes breakfast or if there is a place to eat nearby. At the hostel I stayed last time, it took me 15 minutes to walk to the supermarket, or I needed to take a bus. It's quite hot, so I'd appreciate it if it was as close as possible. The crepe and caramel latte at the stylish cafe nearby were delicious... A crepe has a thick dough and vegetables such as chicken and tomatoes are inside, and you can eat it with something like taco sauce. I was very hungry, so I ate it up quickly.

My Mexican friends are nice and talkative, and they give me a hug when they say goodbye. The hotel staff, who is also Mexican, recommended a free drink stand to me waiting before check-in. Also, I didn't receive a tip for dirtying the floor that had just been cleaned with my shoes after walking in the mud. It is wonderful to see the Mexican staff having lunch together happily. I would love to go to Mexico... The rice looks delicious. The scale of the supermarket Walmart is overwhelming. It is the size that it would take about 10 minutes for my foot to go around. I put food for a week in a cart that could fit about 3 or 4 elementary school children. . America is based on this power and scale, so I guess it gives charm to all kinds of content. Also, at Aldi, which is also a supermarket, it was a small scale with only one cashier lady, but it felt friendly. The cash register while eating potato chips and burgers is amazing lol

America in a chip society. I hear that casino dealers in Las Vegas pay minimum wage without chips. It wasn't in the UK, but when I came to the US, even in a small shop, you would be asked to select a tip. Today is revenge for the delivery failure due to the Kil You incident in NY about 3 weeks ago. Last time, I used USPS (U.S. general post office), but this time I used FEDEX, which is a little more expensive, but more polite. In advance, I wrote down the number of mailing items by type in English names. The staff was really polite and I was able to send it somehow. I made the customer behind me wait for about 20 minutes. It was an hour round trip to the post office, and it was 35 degrees under the scorching sun, but it was cooler than Florida and the wind blew through the shadows. A black man walking across from me expressed a sense of accomplishment, saying, "We'll be there in a little while, yeah." There are people hitchhiking.

Cute flowers I've never seen before, pine cones one-third the size of a shoe, and cicadas chirping I've never heard before. Since we live in a car society, I thought that this is a journey while walking on a road without a road that someone had stepped on. p.s. wifi speed is slow in hotel. In some places it takes a long time for normal searches to load. Of course I can't watch videos or Instagram at times like that. Hostels, on the other hand, are as fast and crisp as Japan. Later, it's a life that doesn't use masks to forget that it's corona.
