Thank you JJM/ Profile of Ryo Onuki

Hello,

Thank you for joining us at the Jakarta Japan Festival today! It was a pleasure to perform for you, and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. For those who are not fluent in Japanese, we hope this English profile of Ryo Onuki is helpful.

Additionally, I would like to share the backstory of the second song he performed today, "Anata no Kagero." This song is deeply personal as it is dedicated to his mother, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's syndrome 13 years ago. Ryo was her caregiver for 10 years. Three years ago, her condition worsened significantly; she could no longer even drink water and was hospitalized.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Ryo was unable to visit her in her final days, and she passed away without him having the chance to say goodbye or express his love and gratitude. That poignant experience inspired this song and has become one of his favourites. Ryo now aims to share this song and his experience with 100 million people, travelling across Japan by car, and hopefully performing at the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen—a prestigious New Year's Eve television program watched by millions in Japan.

We plan to provide more content in English, so please follow his social media for updates. We hope to return to Jakarta soon and also visit other Southeast Asian countries to share his music.

Once again, thank you for coming to the Jakarta Japan Matsuri and listening to Ryo sing.
