Dr. Harsha De Silva from the opposition alliance Samagi Jana Balawegaya blamed the deaths on bad policies. "The entire monetary board is responsible for [the] misery [of] 22 million," he said. "I warned them over a thousand times that they were messing up, but they didn't listen. They were wrong and followed MMT Modern Monetary Theory (massive currency printing). Ultimately, people died in queues. There should be criminal liability."

ケルトンたちの毎度の言い訳は、「社会主義革命は高度に発達した資本主義社会で起きる→ソ連が失敗したのは社会主義を実践する条件が揃っていなかった（→『本当の社会主義』ではなかった）から」と似ている。
