9月に入り、新学期が始まりました！1か月間お休みだったPGS通常クラスも再開し、教室にも活気が戻ってきました。

本日は、7月29日(金)に開催された第1回サイエンスカフェの様子を紹介いたします。第1回は国立災害医療センターで臨床研究部長をされている植竹宏之先生をゲストにお招きしました。カフェ前半は、植竹先生による特別講義でした。現在の医療現場の状況、医学部を志したきっかけやアメリカへの留学経験についてお話してくださいました。

Hello! This is Yui from PGS intern coordinator.

Today I would like to talk about the first Science Café held on Friday, July 29. The guest speaker was Dr. Hiroyuki Uetake, Director of Clinical Research at the National Center for Disaster Medicine. The first half of the café was a special lecture by Dr. Uetake. He talked about the current situation in the medical field, what made him decide to go to medical school, and his experience studying abroad in the U.S.

また、後半は感想や疑問、先生のお話を聞いて学んだこと興味を持ったことを共有し合いました。参加した中高生からは、コロナ対策をいつまで続ける必要があるのか、今後私達はコロナウイルスをどう捉えるようになるのかといった疑問が上がりました。この質問に対する先生からの「コロナウイルスには季節性が見られるようになっている。感染者数の増える”波”は夏休みや冬休みに重なることが多い。これからは、インフルエンザと同等もしくは風邪として扱われるようになるだろう。」というお話しを、中高生も社会人の参加者も強い関心を持って聞いていたように見えます。

参加者の中には、進学後に一度も同級生の顔をはっきりと見たことがないという中学生や、保育園に通う子どもがマスクの必要のない生活を知らないことに不安を感じる保護者の方もいます。現在ではコロナとの共存、脱コロナ禍といった言葉が見られるようになり、日本社会の見方も変化しました。私達は、これから日本はコロナ対策をどうするべきか？自分自身には何が大切なのか？という課題に直面しています。この一つの転換期に、コロナとの向き合い方を改めて考える有意義な時間であったと思います。

In the second half, participants shared their impressions, questions, and what they learned and were interested in after listening to the professor's talk.

 
One junior high school student raised questions "How long do we need to continue taking measures against coronas and how we will perceive coronaviruses in the future? In response to this question, Dr.Uetake said, "Coronaviruses are becoming more seasonal. Waves of increased infections often coincide with summer and winter vacations. It is treated the same as colds and flu."
All of the participants listened with keen interest to these words.

植竹先生、この度は本当にありがとうございました！学校生活や日常では伺うことのできない貴重なお話しを聞き、疑問や感じたことをその場にいる全員で話す機会はなかなかありません。改めて今回開催したカフェの意義を認識しました。
