がんばれ! ナガヤン！

　明日締め切りの仕事があるんだけど、今日のうちにどうしても書いておこうと思う。

　日置市長選に挑戦している永山由高さん（以下ナガヤン）とのお付き合いは、いつの頃からだったのか思い出せない。柔道漫画から飛び出して来たようなルックスなので、Gペンで描いたような輪郭線を想像しながら接してしまう。

　「ナガヤン市長説」というのは、誰が言い出したのか、数年前から何度も聞いたことがあるし、僕も彼に直接リクエストした記憶がある。
　一度、彼が開いている読書会なるものに参加したこともあるし、エネルギー政策のことで、現市長を訪ねたこともある。彼がパーソナリティーを務めるラジオに出演させてもらったことも。（一度は「まちづくり思い帖」という取り組みについて、もう一度は映画「スター・ウォーズ」についてだった。）日置市のまちづくり委員をやっていた時に、ファシリテーターとしてのナガヤンを見たこともあった。

　数少ない思い出しかないが、最も彼に感謝しているのは、僕が毎週土曜日に行っていた「アサカツ」の場に彼が現れ、募金箱設置のアイデアをもらったことかも知れない。
　永吉（鹿児島県日置市吹上町）という小さな街で、参加費なし、議題なし、風通しの良い自由な話し合いの場を提供したいと考えて始めた「アサカツ」だったが、ナガヤンのアイデアを取り入れて以降、電気代や水道代などを自主財源で賄えるようになった。彼には無数の小さなアイデアと大きなビジョンがあるんだなと思った。

「対話と挑戦」というのが彼の掲げたスローガンだ。僕も、対話からしか何も生まれないと思ってアサカツを始めた訳だが、自然と参加者からアイデアが出て、食堂や音楽教室、英会話教室などにも、アサカツの舞台である「永吉銀座」が利用されるようになっていった。
「議題がないからアサカツには参加しない」という方もいらっしゃったが、対話には具体的アクションも含まれることを参加者は実感している。作りながら考えてもいいし、答えもなく走り続けることに、意味はある。

　ナガヤンは出馬を表明して以降、毎日毎日、日置市民と対話の場を持ち続けた。三ヶ月の間に8500人を超える人々から話を聞いたそうだ。（コロナがあるので大規模集会は開いていない）ナガヤンが目で見て、耳で聞いたこと、その財産を市政にきちんと持ち込ませること。これが日置市民の役目であろう。彼が市長になれば、きっと、未来の日置市を自分たちで作っている実感が得られる筈である。

　そういえば、「スターウォーズ・エピソード9・スカイウォーカーの夜明け」の先行上映＠ミッテ10（鹿児島中央駅の駅ビル・アミュプラザの映画館）でナガヤンに遭遇したこともある。彼はジェダイの格好をしていて、お茶目にライトセーバーを振り回していたっけ。そのあと東川隆太郎さんがリーダーとなって「スターウォーズ飲み会」もしたな・・・。「スターウォーズ」の根本を貫く概念は、強大な力に、弱者が知恵と勇気を出し合って立ち向かっていくこと。これがナガヤンのキャラクターと超絶に重なる。ここでいう「強大な力」というのは、決して、銀河帝国のことではなく、この20年ほど停滞している「地域の在り方」だと思う。ナガヤンには敵の存在理由が生理的にわからないほど、純粋な一面がある。現場の声を聞くと同時に超俯瞰で物事を捉えることの出来る方だから、敵は必要ないのだろう。

　知性と体力、ユーモアを兼ね備えた若きリーダーの誕生に期待したい！

We will win! Nagayan!

　I have some work due tomorrow, but I really want to write about it today.

　I can't remember when I first became acquainted with Mr. Yoshitaka Nagayama (Nagayan), who is challenging for the mayorship of Hioki. I can't remember how long I've known Mr. Nagayama, who is challenging for the post of mayor of Hioki, since he looks like something out of a judo comic book, so I tend to imagine his outlines as if they were drawn with a G-pen.

　I don't know who came up with the "Mayor Nagayan theory," but I've heard it many times over the years, and I remember requesting it directly from him.
　I once attended a book club he was holding, and I also visited the current mayor about his energy policy. I also visited the current mayor about energy policy, and appeared on his radio show. (Once was about an initiative called "Machizukuri Mishicho" and once was about the movie "Star Wars. I also saw Nagayan as a facilitator when I was a member of the City Planning Committee of Hioki City.

　I have only a few memories of him, but perhaps the one I am most grateful to him for is when he showed up at my weekly Saturday "Asakatsu" and gave me the idea to set up a donation box.
　I started "Asakatsu" in the small town of Nagayoshi (Fukiage Town, Hioki City, Kagoshima Prefecture) with the idea of providing a place for free and open discussion with no participation fee and no agenda, but after incorporating Nagayan's idea, we have been able to cover the electricity and water bills with our own funds. He has countless small ideas and a big vision, I thought.

Dialogue and challenge" is the slogan he has adopted. I, too, started Asakatsu because I thought that only through dialogue could anything come out of it, and the participants naturally came up with ideas that led to the use of Eikichi Ginza, the stage of Asakatsu, for cafeterias, music classes, and English conversation classes.
Some people said, "I don't participate in Asakatsu because there is no agenda," but the participants realized that dialogue includes concrete actions. It is okay to think while creating, and there is meaning in continuing to run without answers.

　Since announcing his candidacy, Nagayan has continued to hold dialogues with Hioki citizens every day. In three months, he heard from over 8,500 people. (Because of the presence of Corona, he has not been able to hold large gatherings.) What Nagayan has seen with his eyes and heard with his ears, he must make sure that these assets are properly brought into the city government. This is the role of the citizens of Hioki. If he becomes the mayor, we will be able to feel that we are making the future of Hioki City by ourselves.

　By the way, I once met Nagayan at an advance screening of "Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker" at Mitte 10 (a movie theater in Amu Plaza, the station building of Kagoshima Chuo Station). I remember he was dressed as a Jedi and mischievously wielding a lightsaber. After that, we had a "Star Wars drinking party" led by Ryutaro Higashikawa.... The concept that runs through the heart of Star Wars is that the weak use their wisdom and courage to stand up to a powerful force. This is what Nagayan's character is all about. The "powerful force" here is not the galactic empire, but the "regional way of being" that has been stagnant for the past 20 years. There is a side of Nagayan that is so pure that he physiologically doesn't understand why his enemies exist. He doesn't need enemies because he is able to listen to the voices on the ground and at the same time see things from a bird's eye view.

　I look forward to the birth of a young leader who combines intelligence, stamina, and humor!
