Victor/Victoria

U-NEXT now has "Victor/Victoria" available for viewing. While I've watched the stage version several times on TV, this is my first time watching the movie version. The casting is different from the stage, except for Julie Andrews, which is understandable.
To be honest, I prefer the stage version. It's originally about stage actors, and I feel like the stage cast fits their roles better, especially Norma and Toddy. Norma's character is consciously inspired by Jean Harlow or Marilyn Monroe, very appealing on stage. The applause during the curtain call was almost as much for her as for the lead. Toddy also lifted the stage with his singing and dancing, and his portrayal of a gay character was spot-on.
Michael Nouri, who played King, apparently was Jennifer Beals' lover in "Flashdance." Looking at his filmography, he's been active for quite a while.
After "Victor/Victoria," Julie lost that amazing singing voice crucial for musical actresses. But she's entertained us with many roles on film and stage, and that beautiful voice will always stay in our hearts. There are many memorable scenes, but Victor dancing the tango with Norma stands out. It reminds me of the dance scene with Stefania Sandrelli and Dominique Sanda in "The Conformist."
