山林や畑の中に忽然と姿を現す送電塔。発電所から街まで電力を供給するために施設された巨大な鉄塔が、日本中に存在する。風景に溶け込めず、景観を害することは必至。目的は効率的な送電であるから、見た目のデザインにこだわるなどということは無い。あるとしたら、空を飛ぶものへの安全配慮ぐらいであろうか。たとえば橋は人も車も通るのでので、美しく作ることに拘りがあった。送電塔は電気が通る。だから、電気の視点で考えれば、人間が心地よくなる発想など入る余地がない。最短距離で丈夫に繋げることだけだ。この自閉的存在が愛おしく気になる。大いに人の役に立っているのにそう思われず、気にも掛けられず。場所をとるので邪魔もので、景観を悪くする。そういうものは世の中に多く存在する。夜中に点滅するトラス構造の鉄塔の赤ランプを見ながら、存在を労り、供給される電気を使わせてもらう。

Power transmission towers suddenly appear in the mountains and fields. Huge steel towers built to supply electricity from power plants to cities exist all over Japan. They cannot blend into the landscape and are bound to harm it. Since the purpose is efficient power transmission, there is no need to worry about the appearance of the design. If anything, it would probably be about safety considerations for things flying in the sky. For example, bridges are used by both people and cars, so we were particular about making them beautiful. Power transmission towers carry electricity. Therefore, if we think from the perspective of electricity, there is no room for ideas that would make humans more comfortable. The only thing we need to do is connect them in the shortest possible distance. I find this autistic existence endearing and curious. Even though they are of great help to people, they are not seen as such or cared about. They take up space, are a nuisance, and worsen the landscape. There are many such things in the world. Watching the flashing red lights on the trussed steel tower in the middle of the night, I made an effort to stay present and use the electricity provided.t
