Good Morning from #Hungary, which is suffering from a HUGE Cost of Living Crisis. The prices in the supermarkets are - apart from prices w/price ceiling such as milk w/fat content of 2.8% or flour - ~20% higher than the prices in Germany. With much lower wages, Hungarians can't afford that. The identical butter, which costs €1.29 in Germany, costs the equivalent of €2.10 in Hungary. The German quark costs 20 cents more than in Germany, the Nutella 24% more than in Germany. Prime Minister Orban has identified the culprits: the supermarket chains. "Multinationals are behaving as price speculators...raising prices when there is no justification, import food prices, too...which is unjustified and unacceptable," Orbán said. He will escalate a crackdown on unjustified food price hikes at multinational supermarket chains. He also called out multinational supermarket chains for "collaborating with bureaucrats in Brussels" to get away with "profiteering."
