Since its founding, the team has been based in New York (Brooklyn), but moved its headquarters to its current location in Los Angeles in 1958 (the same year, the New York Giants also moved their headquarters to San Francisco on the West Coast). It is widely known as the team where Jackie Robinson, the first African-American major leaguer, made his debut in 1947. It is also famous as the team where Hideo Nomo made his major league debut in 1995.
