西国三十三巡礼二番札所＊紀三井寺

正式には｢紀三井山金剛宝寺護国院(きみいさんこんごうほうじごこくいん)｣という当寺の名称を知る人は少なく、全国に｢紀三井寺｣の名で知られていますが、この紀三井寺とは、紀州にある、三つの井戸が有るお寺ということで名付けられたといわれ、今も境内には、清浄水(しょうじょうすい)、楊柳水(ようりゅうすい)、吉祥水(きっしょうすい)の三井より清水がこんこんと湧き出して、年中絶えることがありません。(紀三井寺の三井水は昭和60年3月、環境庁より日本名水百選に選ばれました)
The temple is officially called "Kimii-san Kongohoji Gokokuin" (meaning "Temple of Kongohoji Gokokuin" in Japanese), but few people know the name of the temple, which is known throughout Japan as "Kimiidera. The temple is said to be named after a temple in Kishu that has three wells, and even today, fresh water from three Mitsui wells, Seijo-sui, Yoryu-sui, and Kikusho-sui, gushes forth constantly throughout the year. (In March 1985, Kimiidera's Mitsui water was selected as one of the 100 best waters in Japan by the Environment Agency.)

多宝塔 (国指定重要文化財)
室町時代・文安6年(1449)建立
嘉吉元年(1441年)倒壊した等に替わって再建された、境内では最古の本瓦葺三間多宝塔。下層は四本柱の方形、上層は十二本の柱を立て高欄をめぐらせた円形。
室町中期様式・五智如来をまつる。
