「天気情報の可視化」

「バタフライ効果」とは、小さな変化が時間が経つにつれて大きな変化に変わることを示す概念です。例えば、ブラジルで羽ばたいた一匹の蝶が、最終的にアメリカ・テキサス州のハリケーンを引き起こすという比喩があります。これは現実かどうかは分かりませんが、子どもたちを見ていると、この概念が全くのでたらめではないように感じます。最初は些細な行動だったものが、後に大きな現象に変わることに、よく驚かされます。これは複利の法則にも似ています。最初は微細なことでも、ずっと続けていくと、ある時突然大きく変化します。

私の最新作は、まだタイトルがありませんが、「天気情報の可視化」というテーマで制作しています。選択した都市の現在の天気情報を元に、背景の色とドットの動きが変化する、シンプルな仕組みのインタラクティブアートです。どこかの都市や地域の寒さや暑さ、風向き、風の強さなどを、Web上で異なる形で再現しています。私は昔から、どこかで起きている現象をトラッキングして別の表現に変えることに強い興味があり、それをようやく実現できました。このプロジェクトは、AIの進化のおかげで可能になりました。私自身のプログラミングスキルは限られているため、専門家と一緒に細かい調整を行う必要があり、通常は多大な予算がかかります。しかし、AIの進化により、私とAIだけでこのような作品を数日で完成させることができました。技術の民主化には非常に感謝しています。この作品はまだ未完成で、湿度やドットの重さなどを加えて、さらに興味深いものにする予定です。

以前は、iPhoneのセンサーを使って、現在の状態をカメラ以外でトラッキングし、画面に映すようなアプリを作りたいと考えていましたが、プログラムを書く人に多くの要求をすることになり、現実的ではなく断念しました。しかし、最近数年でチームラボの作品に触れる機会があり、自分の想像していたことが間違っていないことがわかりました。インタラクティブな作品を自分でも作れる時代になったことで、この作品が誕生しました。

遠くで起きていることが別の場所で異なる形になり、大きな現象を生む可能性があるという点では、バタフライ効果やドミノ効果のようなものかもしれません。しかし、現在の現象や値を別のものに変換して何かを作るという、私がとても興味を持っていることを形にできたことに満足しています。ぜひ、ゆっくりとご覧ください。

Interactive Web Art Based on Weather

"The butterfly effect" is a concept that demonstrates how small changes can lead to significant changes over time. For example, there is a metaphor that a butterfly flapping its wings in Brazil could ultimately cause a hurricane in Texas, USA. While it's unclear if this is true, observing children makes me feel that this concept is not entirely nonsensical. I am often surprised by how actions that were initially trivial can later transform into significant phenomena. This is similar to the principle of compound interest. Even the smallest things can suddenly change dramatically if they continue for a long time.

My latest work is still untitled, but it is themed around "visualization of weather information." It is an interactive art piece with a simple mechanism that changes the background color and dot movements based on the current weather information of a selected city. It recreates the cold, heat, wind direction, and wind strength of a city or region on the web in a different form. I have always had a strong interest in tracking phenomena happening somewhere and transforming them into different expressions, and I have finally been able to realize this. This project was made possible thanks to the evolution of AI. My programming skills are limited, so I usually need to work with experts to make fine adjustments, which typically requires a considerable budget. However, the evolution of AI has allowed me to complete such work in just a few days with AI alone. I am extremely grateful for the democratization of technology. This work is still unfinished, and I plan to add humidity and the weight of the dots to make it even more interesting.

Previously, I wanted to create an app that would track the current state using iPhone sensors and display it on the screen without using a camera, but it was not practical as it required many demands from programmers, so I gave up. However, in recent years, I have had the opportunity to experience the works of teamLab, and I realized that what I had imagined was not wrong. Now that we are in an era where we can create interactive works ourselves, this work was born.

The fact that something happening far away can take a different form in another place and potentially create a significant phenomenon may be similar to the butterfly effect or the domino effect. However, I am satisfied that I could shape something that I am very interested in, which is transforming current phenomena and values into something else. Please take your time and have a look.
