もう、50年以上前の話しではあるけれど
高校の頃、学祭ではPPM( Peter, Paul and Mary )を
コピーするグループがたくさん出演していた。
高校生の自分にとって、プロテストはフォークソングと共にあって
深い思考を伴わない、ある種のファッションだった様に思う。
ベトナムは遠く、差別も身近には感じてはいなかった。
モテたい為だけでもなく、好きなギターやフォークソングだったが
音楽の素養が無い事に気付き、高校時代のフォークグループは
早々に断念する。
それでも懲りずに、大学に入ってからもフォークサークルに所属して
グループのベース担当で学祭のステージに立つ事もあった。

Early morning rain /朝(あした)の雨は、失恋-別れの歌。
Gordon Lightfootのオリジナルを、PPMが歌ってヒット。
当時コピー譜集が何冊か出ていて、それがコピーバンドにとって
バイブルだった。いまだに手元にあるけれど、もう指も頭も動かない。

ソノシート付きというのもあった。

"Early Morning Rain," sometimes styled as "Early Mornin' Rain," is a song written, composed, and recorded by Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. The song appears on his 1966 debut album Lightfoot! and, in a re-recorded version, on the 1975 compilation Gord's Gold.
