ギフティッドアダルト③ 〜三大特性のみっつ目『稼働力:動機付け的な異なり』とは？

あ、この人ギフティッドアダルトだ、と思う、英語が読めない先輩の為に、

『THE GIFTED ADULT 〜A REVOLUTIONARY GUIDE FOR LIBERATING EVERYDAY GENIUS〜　ギフティッドの大人〜日々の天才を自由にするための革命的な指針』

という、著者自身がギフティッドアダルトの、564ページある洋書の一部を引用・翻訳したことがある。

外れ値的な性質のせいで、人生の辛苦を舐めてきた先輩にとって、自己をもっと知る場、己の特性に合った、生きる指針を発掘する機会に少しでもなってくれたらいいとなと想い、翻訳した。

翻訳の素人なので、拙くて申し訳ないが、折角なので、ここに転記する。（外国語からの日本語訳含めて、ギフティッドアダルトについて書かれた日本語の本が存在しないのは、残念でならない。）

If the traits we have just discussed are the fuel and the flame of Everyday Genius, then drive is the spark that makes it blaze up and venture out into the world.

ちょうどこれまで議論してきた特性（激烈性、複雑性）が、日々の天才の燃料と炎だとすると、稼働力は、それを、燃え盛らせ、危険を冒して世界に飛び込ませる、火花である。

Drive is much more than being unusually ambitious.

稼働力には、異常に野心的であることと、比較にならない程の質量がある。

It is rather a self-contained daemon or guiding inner spirit.

むしろそれは、自己充足の守護霊、もしくは、導びかれていく、内的精神である。

Drive is the domain of insatiable curiosity, high standards (perfectionism), perseverance, independence, and self-motivation.

飽くことを知らない好奇心、高い達成基準（完璧主義）、忍耐力、自立、自己動機付けが、稼働力の領域である。

The same Sir Francis Galton we met in our earlier discussion of the development of IQ described this motivational difference with penetrating insight when in 1874 he said that in a person of genius, “the ideas come as by inspiration; in other words, his character is enthusiastic, his mental associations are rapid, numerous and firm, and his imagination is vivid, and he is driven rather than drives himself.”

IQの発達という以前の議論の中で出てきたフランソワガントンさんが、1874年に、天才という人の中で、

「アイディアは天来の妙想によって到来する。言言い換えると、彼の特徴は情熱的であり、彼の精神の連携は、敏速で、帯びただしく、力強く、想像力は鮮やかで、彼が彼自身を駆り立てるよりむしろ、駆り立てられている」

と述べ、この、見透かすような洞察力と共にある、動機付けの異なりを表現している。

The Everyday Genius trait of being a self-starter is usually evident very early in children who ask endless questions, stick their fingers into everything, seek out challenges without urging, enjoy and often prefer self-directed learning, and seem to relish competing with and besting themselves.

自ら積極的に取り組むという日々の天才の特性にとっては、終わりなき質問をしたり、何にでも手を出したり、急き立てられることなく挑戦を求めたり、自分で決めた勉強方法を好んだり、己自身と競い合い、自己の最高を更新するのを楽しんでみえたりするのは、子供のとても早い時期からの、ありふれた出来事である。

Many gifted children are driven to explore their world and the inner landscape of their creative minds in solitude.

多くのギフティッドの子供たちが、孤独の中で、彼らの世界と、彼らの創造的な内面の風景を探検するように、駆り立てられている。

While the parents of the gifted child may be upset about this—fearing the child is miserably lonely or sure to become a recluse—research tells us the child is quite content.

ギフティッドの子供の両親は、この、「惨めなほど孤独、もしくは、世捨て人になるに違いないとう子供への恐れ」に狼狽えているかもしれないが、当の子どもは、（この状況に）すっかり満足していると、調査結果は出ている。

Even when the Everyday Genius is a youngster, it is obvious that there is always a goal just ahead.
