Some of the protesters marched towards several centers in the city, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Residence, while others blocked one of the entrances to the city. Hundreds of protesters block another major road and lit fires. The police used skunk water to disperse them.

Carmit Palty Katzir, whose brother, Elad, is still held by Hamas, spoke at the rally in front of the Knesset: "I believed that the issue of the hostages was above all else, that there was nothing political about it. I did not believe that I would have to fight against government officials for my brother's right to return home."

Prior to the rally outside the Knesset, activists from the anti-government Brothers and Sisters in Arms protest group clashed with residents of ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods in Jerusalem. The activists marched to Shabbat Square near the Haredi neighborhoods of Mea She'arim and Geula and demonstrated against the proposed bill that would exempt yeshiva students from army conscription.

Haredi residents threw bottles and eggs at the activists, as police tried to separate the two sides. The police said that the Brotherhood and Sisters in Arms activists "blocked traffic lanes in violation of the law and began to confront the area's residents." They added two local residents who were arrested. One for knocking over a police scooter and another for vandalizing a flag.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his scheduled hernia surgery Sunday evening, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that nothing will stop an Israeli operation against Hamas in Rafah and that there will be no victory against Hamas without it.

The demonstration in front of the Knesset, and the tent city that is set to be erected there for the next four days, are the first actions of their kind by the anti-government protest groups since October 7. After the Hamas attack, protests against the Netanyahu government subsided after many of the organizing groups diverted their resources to aid the war effort and the home front.
