4 Soseki and Principal Keizaburo Hanyu (2)

The people whom Soseki introduced were Motoji Hamatake (born in Nagasaki, lived in Awa District, Chiba Prefecture, Sasebo City, Tsukiji Honmachi (retreat) in Akita City), Kenji Kaneko (born in Niigata, 1880-1962, Iida, Nagano Prefecture) Worked at a junior high school, served as professor at Hiroshima Higher Normal School, Shizuoka/Himeji High School, president of Showa Women's University, author of "Eikiri Natural Beauty Literature Research" and "Ningen Soseki"), Hidetoshi Saji (born in Fukuoka, worked at Urawa Junior High School, second high school) Professor).

Letter addressed to Genji Hamatake, Saturday, July 15, 1908

Dear Sir/Sir, I have been asked to hire an English teacher at Sho (*) Junior High School, and the monthly salary maybe 60 or 65, and if Komatsu is still undecided, this is the case. If there is a conflict with Ishikawa, I will notify the other party. Please note that I will be recommending three people, Mr. Saji, Mr. Kaneko, and you. If possible, please send your resume by post and submit your application.

July 15th

Mr. Genji Hamatake

The correct name for Shōnai Junior High School in the letter is "Shonai" Junior High School. Similarly, he wrote a letter to Kenji Kaneko on July 15, 1909.

Letter addressed to Kenji Kaneko, Saturday, July 15, 1898

Dear Sir/Sir, I have been asked to hire an English teacher at Shonai Junior High School, and the monthly salary is 60 yen. If you agree, please send me your resume (by mail). At the same time, Messrs. Saji and Hamatake also intend to recommend Messrs. Saji and Hamatake if they wish, but since they have already negotiated with other schools and are freeloaders, it is difficult to understand what the situation will be. above

July 15th

Mr. Kenji Kaneko

Kenji Kaneko wrote in his diary that day, ``I would like to express my gratitude to you, but I would not like to go to a remote place like Shonai'' (``Ningen Soseki'', written by Kenji Kaneko). Kaneko did not like working in a remote area and did not send his resume because his grandmother suddenly died three days later.

Hamatake sent in his resume, but he did not go to Shonai Junior High School. The next letter appears to be a negotiation to raise the monthly salary to 70 yen.

Thursday, August 3, 1901 Letter addressed to Genji Hamatake (Ruby is the author)

I apologize for the inconvenience, but this afternoon Mr. Keizaburo Hanyu, the head of Shonai Junior High School, came to visit. We talked about various things about you, so I told Tama that I had met him anyway, and he said that if he had free time tomorrow around 8 pm, he would like to meet me at the place listed on the left. The address is Tsukiji Akashi-cho 49 Yashiro Yoshikichi (behind Labesu Shokai)

The other side has great hope but is finding it difficult to spend 70 yen. I have said that English graduates under 70 do not go to Shonai Sho (etc.). I don't know if the other party will take you or not. I don't know if you're going or not, but I thought it would be a good idea to meet up and see how things are going, so I went out on time and went to the checkout. The person from the other side said I could ask for you, but I told them it was a boarding house and that it would be more convenient for me to come in person. This press conference is not a press conference to make a decision, so you are free to refuse even if you may have problems with your monthly salary or other matters.
                       Natsume Kinnosuke
August 3rd

Mr. Genji Hamatake

In the end, this job introduction failed, and the new English teacher recommended by Soseki was not appointed to Shonai Junior High School.
