I had a day off for the first time in a while.
At my wife's request, I went for an afternoon walk to TY Harbor in Tennozu Isle.
The river we sat on the terrace looked like a tributary of the Shinagawa Canal. There were small flocks of waterfowl everywhere, swelling up on the surface of the water in early spring.
"Is that a seagull? My wife said.
"No," I said. "They're Miyakodori. They look alike, but they're not. They're often confused, though."
"Hmm."my wife said.
"In the Manyoshu, there is a song that says,
Funekisou Horieno Kawano Mizugiwani KiitsutsuNakuha Miyakodorikamo
-The bird that sings while coming and going at the water's edge of the Horie River, where boats compete, may be the metropolitan bird.-
It's a nice song that brings to mind a scene."
"Miyakodori have been Miyakodori since the age of the Manyoshu,1200 years ago. But how can you such a poem appear so quickly? I can't believe it."

しばらくぶりに一日お休みをいただきました。
家内の希望で天王洲アイルのTYハーバーまで午後の散歩に出ました。
テラスに座って見る川は品川運河の支流でしょうか。早春の水面を丸々と膨れた水鳥の小さな群れが彼処にありました。
「あれ、ユリカモメ?」家内が言った。
「いや。ミヤコドリ。似てるけどな、違う。混同されることが多いけどな。」
「ふうん」
「万葉集に
船競う　堀江の河の水際に　来居つつ鳴くは　都鳥かも
という謡がある。情景が浮かぶいい謡だ。」
「万葉の時代からミヤコドリはミヤコドリだったのねぇ・・でも、なぜそんな和歌がぱっと出てくるのよ?まったく信じられない」
「・・すいません」
