Dozen Things I Talk About Sonic X (1)

I had compressed and saved the materials related to Sonic X, but the data got corrupted. Therefore, I have no choice but to rely on my memory, and please understand that my memory may be incorrect.

For Sonic X, I was in charge of the script, story editor for seasons 1 and 2, and storyboard for eps 30 "Battle on the Egg Carrier." Usually in Japan, story editor is written as `series composition,' but I decided to write it as story editor, as Junichi Iioka, the story editor of Detective Conan.

Sonic X started airing in April 2003, so I think I started writing the script around the summer or fall of 2002. The Sonic X anime production team, including Kenji Mizunuma a Producer, Koji Miki a script producer, Hiro Masaki myself, Kiyoko Yoshimura, Chinatsu Hojo and Yoshio Urasawa, worked on the anime based on the girls' manga from December 2001 to June 2002. However, that was canceled and we started working on Sonic X. At this time, director Hajime Kamegaki, Art director Yukiko Iijima, who was the model for Yuki-chan, a character of “Digimon Adventure,”, and screenwriter Masahiko Shiraishi joined the team.

The script meeting was held with Sonic Team near Jingu Stadium in Aoyama. The Sonic Team members were such wonderful people. All participants openly expressed their opinions.

I don't remember how the story ended up being set in a country similar to the USA instead of Japan.

I will only write what I remember for sure about the original major characters.

Christopher Thorndyke: The family name comes from Dr. Thorndyke, a fictional detective created by R. Austin Freeman. Director Hajime Kamegaki decided on Chris' family composition and their occupations.

Sam Speed: Named after the fictional detective Sam Spade, created by Dashiell Hammett.

Stewart: His appearance resembled the fictional secret agent Harry Palmer played by Michael Caine.

Bocoe, Decoe and Bokkun are characters that were not in the script I wrote. Director Hajime Kamegaki introduced them for the first time in the storyboard. (Of course I was surprised) Also, Ella and Tanaka must have been created by Mr. Kamegaki.
