本日はTurntide Technologiesの調達記事から”Smart Motor”を取り上げたいと思います。

Smart motor is an intelligent, and programmable device able to adjust the frequency and voltage supply in order to alter the speed and torque of a motor. In traditional motors, mechanical elements are used to control the speed, torque, and position of a motor. However, smart motors use sophisticated power electronics to control motor as per the application requirement. (引用元)

スマートモーター(Smart Motor)とは、モータの速度とトルクを変更するために周波数と電圧供給を調整することができるインテリジェントでプログラム可能なデバイスです。

従来のモーターは、速度、トルク、および位置を制御するために機械的要素が使用されていましたが、スマートモーターでは、アプリケーション要件に従ってモータを制御するために高度なパワーエレクトロニクスを使用します。

Turntide Technologiesのモリス氏によれば、現在のほぼ98％のモータはニコラ・テスラが1888年に発明した技術をベースにしているそうです。

同社にはアマゾンやBMWなどが投資をしています。おそらく両社の製品に搭載される日もそう遠くはないかもしれません。
