Covid-19 cluster on Northern Beaches

私が住むノーザンビーチの北部にてクラスターが発生し、12月17日に、ノーザンビーチのすべての住民に対して、12月18日（金）から12月20日（日）までの３日間、できるだけ家にとどまるようにとの要請がありました。19日（土）には、19日午後5時から23日（水）までの間、ノーザンビーチ住民に対するロックダウンがアナウンスされ、エリア以外の地域との行き来、NSWから他州への行き来が制限され、私の友人の多くがやむなく旅行をキャンセルしなければならないという事態に。
テストセンター前にはテストを受ける人の行列ができ、人によっては７時間待ち、列で待っても途中で返されてしまうケースもありました。私は若干落ち着きだした頃にドライブスルーでテストを受けたのですが、始まってから2日目の新しいテストセンターだったためか、まだ効率化されておらず、他のテストセンターではQRコードをスキャンしてスマートフォンで記入できたフォームも、紙とペンを渡され、平らな面の少ない車の中で記入することに。結局２時間40分かかりました。
多くの人がテストを受け、感染数が落ち着いてきた今では、10を超えるテストセンターのうち、待ち時間も今では最大で30分ほどになってきたとのことです。23日の知事の会見によると、クリスマス期間は規制が緩和され、クリスマス後にはまた今と同じレベルのロックダウンに戻るとのこと。ただ、北部と南部に分断され、北部の住民はクリスマス期間中も他地域との行き来ができず、親族にクリスマスに会えない人々も沢山出てきています。
ノーザンビーチ住民の迅速で協力的な対応に感心する一方で、早くコロナが落ち着くことを願わずにはいれない日々です。
ところで、ジムは閉まっているのですが、運動は許されているため、今朝、サーフィンの練習に行ってきました。久しぶりの海はとても気持ちよく、しばらくは、朝海で過ごす時間が増えそうなので、もしかしたら初心者を卒業できるかもしれません。

COVID cluster grew on the Northern Beaches where I live, and stay-at-home for 3 days from Friday, the 18th to Sunday, the 20th was requested to residents in the Northern Beaches. On Saturday, the 19th, a lockdown from 5 p.m. on the day to the end of Wednesday was announced. The residents cannot go outside the area, and people outside cannot come into the area. Also, other states put the restriction on people coming from and going to Sydney. Many of my friends ended up cancelling the Xmas trips.
There were long queues in front of Covid – 19 test centers, some people waited for 7 hours and some others were told to turn back because the centers could not handle any more people. When things seemed to have calmed down a bit, I went to a drive-through one, which was pretty new and not optimized. I was handed a paper form to fill in the personal information inside my car, in which writing was not easy, while other centers let people scan QR codes and fill in the information online via their mobiles. It took me 2 hours and 40 minutes in the end.
Now that many people have taken tests and the cases started to decrease, it takes 30 minutes at most to take a test out of more than 10 test centers. On the 23rd, NSW premier announced that restrictions would be eased from the 24th to the 26th, the Xmas days and go back to where we were on the day from the 27th . The Northern beaches was split into North part and south part and residents in the North part are still in lockdown, not being able to go outside the area and invite people to come into the area, which cause many people not being able to see their relatives during the Xmas.
I am actually impressed by how quick residents took actions and how seriously they took this situation. In the meantime, I sincerely hope that this situation gets contained as soon as possible.
By the way, gyms are closed but exercises are encouraged, so I went to the beach to practice surfing. The ocean for the 1st time in a month was so refreshing and I am sure I will spend more time in the ocean, which may lead me to graduate from a beginner surfer!
