Today's kanji is mizu(水). So, let's start by talking about what the word means.

Mizu(水) means water. If you add a short line, it becomes the kanji called koori(氷). Koori(氷) means ice. This kanji is also used to make the word Wednesday(水よう日).

So, let’s move on to writing the kanji for mizu(水). This kanji has 4 lines.

Before I draw these kanji, I will first prepare a kanji box. Imagine that your kanji are inside an invisible square box. This box will stop you drawing your kanji too big or too small.

First, line 1 is a long vertical line with a flick. We draw the line down the center of the kanji 'box' from top to bottom, and then, add a little flick to the left. This flick is called hane(はね) and it's an important line in this kanji. I’d like to talk more about hane(はね) in another video one day.
Next, line 2 is a horizontal line with a slanting line. Draw a horizontal line from the left to the middle, and then, draw a slanting line down to the left.
Line 3 is a slanting line. Draw from the top-right to the middle of line 1.
Line 4 is a slanting line. Draw it from the end of line 3 to the right-hand corner.

Mizu(水) is complete!
