-------------------------------------

Today's kanji is kin(金). So, let's start by talking about what the word means.

First of all be careful when using this kanji, because it has different meanings when it is pronounced differently. Kin(金) can be pronounced in many ways, but the ones you should remember are; kin(金) and kane(金). Kin(金) means gold. Kane(金) means money. Also, this kanji is used to make the word Friday(金よう日).

If you can write kin(金), and you have seen my other videos, you can write all the days of the week. At the end of this video, I will quickly show you how to draw the kanji for all of the days of the week.

So, let’s move on to writing the kanji for kin(金). This kanji has 8 lines.

Before I draw these kanji, I will first prepare a kanji box. Imagine that your kanji are inside an invisible square box. This box will stop you drawing your kanji too big or too small.

First, line 1 is a slanting line. It begins at the top center, and slants down to the left.
Line 2 is also a slanting line. It mirrors line 1. It begins at the top of line 1, and slants down to the right.
Line 3 is a short horizontal line. Draw it from halfway down line 1, but make sure it does not touch lines 1 or 2.
Line 4 is a horizontal line. Draw it in line with the end of line 1. It’s a bit longer than line 3, and make sure it also does not touch lines 1 or 2.
Line 5 is a long vertical line. We draw the line down from the middle of line 3 to the bottom of the kanji ‘box’.
Line 6 is a short slanting line. It starts on the left just below line 4, draw it down and to the middle, so it stops just before the end of line 5.
Line 7 is a short slanting line. It starts on the right just below line 4, draw it down and to the middle, so it stops just before the end of line 5.
Line 8 is a long horizontal line. Draw it under lines 6 and 7.

Kin(金) is complete!

So, as I mentioned earlier, let's write all the days of the week!
