iced coffee, lavender skies, enjoying summer (late july)

oops, the electricity cut out so I had to restart writing and none of my past draft got saved.

before the electricity cut out, I was writing about how I have recently been feeling some anxiety and guilt about not having enough time to keep in touch with my family, but I reached out to them to say hi and immediately felt a bit better. sometimes just a little action in the direction I want to go is enough!

I spent the past few weeks pretty relatively relaxed. I wrote lyrics to a new song for mango blood, bought a big canvas (which I’m really excited about, as I always wanted to expand my style to paint larger scale pieces!), and have been eating good food and seeing friends. finishing up makeup hospital shifts. attending a beautiful spiritual jazz listening session at LA state historic park, and the staff approached my partner and I to take photos of us and asked to interview us to feature on their website because we looked so blissed out hehe. it was a sweet reminder that being in authentic energy attracts good things in life <3

I also linked up with an old friend for a delicious dinner and drinks at my favorite open air tapas style restaurant, and a new bar in the area I had been excited to visit for a while! they were playing one of my favorite artists, oumou sangare, and it had a comfortable relaxed vibe when we walked in hehe.

yesterday I also got to grab a delicious meal of afuri yuzu ramen wiz yuzu lager in dtla w my parnter after work for dinner! and went to my brother’s white coat ceremony the weekend before that hehe. my partner and I also went to the LA zoo (it was sooooo hot but still fun), a warehouse rave in dtla (we were kind of sleepy at it hehe), so we’ve actually been doing quite a lot of fun summer activities!

things I am looking forward to: seeing a african expiremental short film at no instant image hall tonight, having my artist interview with no borders journal in an hour or so, working on my personal statement, seeing z/ava tomorrow to catch up and check out a new spot in town, celebrating the last summer Friday with all you can eat shabu shabu at momo paradise on friday, and a pop up apothecary event on sunday hosted by shiloh tea house! next tuesday there is also a free film screening in collaboration with a24 and crenshaw dairy mart, a “radical botany” workshop and talk that my friend from MIT is screening her film at (and where many artist friends I wanted to meet are convening), and an evening brazilian performance art event in chinatown noon projects. the week after that is khruangbin concert, then desert daze music festival (with so many of my favorite international psychedelic jazz musicians!) in october, and a vegas trip with a show at the sphere planned for my birthday with my partner!

many exciting things on the horizon :) though of course I feel a little anxious and overwhelmed at times, I think it is nice to keep these exciting things in mind for the future to motivate myself.

until next time <3
